So yet again I find myself sitting down to review one of this authors books and I am finding it difficult to decide what type to write. Do I write a 3 page review with tons of spoilers giving away half the book because I just can’t help myself since the book was just that good or do I reign in my immediate choice to blab and tone it down, making you want to immediately run and get this book….tough choice I know. It is just not fair that one author have so much freaking talent to write such good books…it’s just really not fair. But I won’t complain as long as she keeps turning out books like this!
With that being said I will try to fall somewhere in between…
Kace. Ahhhh….how I wish you were real. LOL….this is his backstory on how Kace’s life has unfolded. How he knows Jett, how he had and then lost a very promising boxing career and what the “big secret” is that he carries around that makes him the broody alpha male we have come to love and adore (and lust after). On that journey to finding all this out, I swear to god at one point I had my kindle literally two inches in front of my face and I was holding my breath. My husband looked over and yelled, what the hell are you doing. He just doesn’t get it. He doesn’t know that feeling that you get when you’re so wrapped up in a story that you feel like you’re standing right there watching it happen. That you’re so wrapped up that you can feel the characters emotions. That is what I felt in Kace’s story. While reading the real reason he loses his boxing career in the first few chapters I swear I may have had a stroke.
After he loses his career his life spirals downward and he has literally hit rock bottom. He might as well be in hell’s underground garage. Reading about his spiral is literally heartbreaking. I wanted to hug him and rock him to sleep…No one can reach him, not Jett, Goldie…no one but Lyla. Yes, remember the feisty friend of Goldie…well she seems to be the only one that can get through to Kace and that is only minimal but it is something and she is RELENTLESS and I love, love, love everything about her!! I think I may love her as much as Goldie and that is saying ALOT!
I don’t want to reveal what his big secret is that is keeping him from moving forward and living a guilt free life but sweet baby f&cking jesus in a hand basket it’s a doozy!! I swear the guilt Kace carries with him about it I could sometimes feel…I could feel the heaviness of it. And in typical Meghan Quinn fashion just when things could not get worse, there is a huge and I mean huge. Gigantic. Enormous. effing twist.
Kace finds out all the guilt and heartache he has been carrying to make him a shell of a person maybe really wasn’t necessary? Instead of doing something so horrible is what he did something good? OH LORD!!! The relief I felt was ridiculous. I mean hello, its just a book…this isnt my life…lol…yeah I get lost in her books….
Now while Kace is going through all of this we get to see other characters we have seen before and a little bit more on their stories…Blane, Diego, the girls….LOVE them all and can’t wait to read more about them. But we also get more of Lyla….and boy does she go through hell with Kace during this book. But she is tough as dirt and does not give up on him and is always in his face…always there for him. Looking forward to reading more on her as well.
In a nutshell this book will take you on a roller coaster which is Kace’s life. It has ups and downs and twists and turns and even though dark at times, it makes Kace who he is and you will love him a little bit more for it. It was hard to read at times and how low he was but damn it was good to see him rise up from it. As usual I will be in a god damn book hangover for a few days…not much I have read lately even comes close to this book. It may actually be the best in the series so far and was just what I needed….I definitely recommend this series and all her others!!!

When I finished this book my mind and heart needed a few days to mull over what exactly I read and felt. There is so much that I want to say about this book however I’m afraid I won’t do it the justice that it deserves. So with that being said please go and one click this book— you will not regret it! You will devour this book, hate that it has to end, and then be left in a book hangover. But all those emotions are completely and totally worth it!
Repentance is the story of Kace Haywood- the story that all fans of the Bourbon Series have been waiting for. If you haven’t read the Bourbon Series don’t fret because Repentance can be read as a standalone. However I would highly encourage you to read the Bourbon Series as you get to learn more about the side characters in this book and also get to know Kace more. Kace where does one even start about him- well besides making ladies panties wet (oh yeah he is SMOKING!!), he was earning the respect and fear of competitors and on his way to winning boxing titles. However after learning the truth about someone he once trusted Kace goes to the bar to drink his misery and sorrow away. That one night, that one moment in time, Kace lost everything he worked so hard to get. In addition to losing everything he worked for he also loses himself. In what may be the hardest fight of his life, Kace has to try and find forgiveness for himself or this sin may just end up killing him.
Let me first off start by saying I loved Kace in the Bourbon Series and was always wondered what the sin he committed was that he could not forgive himself and why he would not let others get close to him. We are finally given the answers to all this and more in this book and it is done so in typical Meghan Quinn fashion! If at all possible I fell more in love with Kace reading his story than I thought possible. My heart broke for him; I literally wanted to reach through my kindle and hug him. However since I couldn’t reach through and hug him I’m glad Layla was there to do so. Layla is by far one of my favorite lead female characters! She is tough as nails and does not take sh#&& from anyone! She will tell you how it is and let you know when you need to man up and step up. Yet with having that strong side she also has a soft side to her where she refuses to give up on people (Kace) and helps them understand not to give up on themselves. The chemistry between these two characters is off the chart and the special moments they share just melted my heart! We are also given more insight into other characters (Blain and Diego to name a few) that we were introduced to in the Bourbon Series and I CANNOT wait to read their stories.
This book has landed itself in my top favorite books. The emotions that Meghan Quinn was able to evoke in her writing of this story is top notch. The storyline is real and raw and you can’t help but feel and fall in love with Kace. I tip my hat off to Meghan Quinn for giving me a hell of a book hangover and for writing such an amazing story. If you haven’t already— go one click this book and the entire Bourbon Series and fall in love with all the characters!
