Adaline Morgan is the love of Emmit Lewis’s life. In Emmit’s eyes Adaline is all that he wants and all that he needs beside racing cars. As his racing career starts to take off he wants nothing more than for Adaline to be there; right by his side forever. In what is suppose to be the best moment of both of their lives- Adaline breaks Emmit’s heart. She fears that if she helps him chase his dreams she will never have the opportunity to chase her own. Three years later Adaline realizes the mistake she has made and returns to the race track to try to talk and hopefully fix what was broken between her and Emmit.
The moment Adeline broke his heart- Emmit channeled all his energy into his racing career to become the best he could be. He also realized that his heart would never heal and allowing a woman to get close to him was not something Emmit would ever allow again. When Emmit sees Adaline after the three years apart he quickly realizes that despite the heartbreak that he endured when she walked away he never stopped loving her.
When I started the book I quickly got very into it. From the very beginning it was extremely evident the love that Emmit has for Adaline and vise versa. Although they were both very young they wanted nothing more than to be with one another it was evident that Adaline had dreams of her own. She didn’t want to loose her dreams while helping Emmit obtain his. This issue will definitely hit close to home for many people because no matter how old you are sometimes in relationships one person’s dreams takes higher importance than the other person’s. As a partner do you sacrifice your own dreams to help your partner achieve theirs or do you allow yourself the freedom to chase your own? I really loved that the couple was faced with this dilemma early on in the book however I wished it was talked about more. Maybe it was because of the age of the characters but I felt that they could have handled this situation differently which may have then help them avoid the heartbreak between Emmit and Adaline. As I continued to read the book it lost some steam for me and in my eyes became a bit predictable. With that being said I did love to see how much love there was between Emmit loved Adaline regardless of what they had to deal with in the past and what life threw at them. If you are looking for a second chance love story quick read this is the book for you.
Opening the door, I smiled. Adaline was standing there with an umbrella over her head as the rain came down steadily. “Hey. I had to ask which one was your bus. You’ve gotten a different one.”
My smile faded some as I nodded. “Yeah, well a lot of things are different now.”
Adaline’s face fell as she asked, “May I come in?”
“Um, yeah but Robert’s here and—”
Robert pushed past me and waved to Adaline. “Hey, Adaline! Great seeing you again. I’m headed back to the hauler, Emmit. See ya later.”
Slowly shaking my head, I shot daggers at my so-called best friend.
Lola barked and Adaline let out a gasp. “Oh, my gosh. There’s a dog!”
“Always were observant, Adaline.”
Adaline shot me a dirty look as she slowly nodded. “Well anyway, I’m sorry Robert ran off. I’ll let him know he can come back.”
Adaline turned and walked off as I squeezed my eyes shut and cursed under my breath. “Fuck!” I hissed through my teeth. Stepping out into the rain, I called for her. “Adaline, wait. I’m sorry, if you want to come in, you’re more than welcome to.”
Turning around slowly, Adaline raised an eyebrow. “Anyone else in there?”
I didn’t even care I was getting wet. “Like who?” I asked with a confused look.
With a shrug, Adaline walked back over to me and started up the steps as I stepped back in and told Lola to sit. Adaline stepped into my bus and looked around as her eyes widened in surprise as she glanced back toward the bedroom. “Oh, I don’t know, Cookie maybe?”
Holy living hell. Adaline was jealous.
