His Light in the Dark by L.A. Fiore
Released: February 9, 2016
My first memory was of a slap, hard across the face: the sting on my cheek and the jarring of my bones as I slammed back into my bed. It was my dad who had hit me.
I had been four.
Most of my memories were much of the same and no one ever saw, no one ever fought to help, no one ever cared.
Then we moved.
My new neighbor cared, rescued the twelve-year-old I had been from a beating. Always thought I’d suffer the nightmare alone, I was wrong.
Mace Donati saved me that day in all the ways a person could be saved.
And his daughter, Mia, she became the friend I had always wanted, my conscience when my own faltered, the light that led me home when I had lost my way.
The girl who grew into the only woman I would ever love.
But when you realize you’re more like your father than the good people who took you in and gave you a home, the only way to return their kindness is to let them go.
I let them go, got so far lost in the shadows I couldn’t remember who I was anymore. Mia never gave up on me. She fought for me, kept the light on so I’d find my way back.
And when I did, life threw us a curveball. I had to hurt Mia in order to save her.
But when my past comes back to haunt me and I almost lose her, I’m ready to fight for her…fight to find a way back into her heart while keeping the demons from my past from finishing what they started.

The first twelve years of Cole’s life were spent in hell all thanks to the abusive hands of a man he called Father. He learned at a very young age to make himself invisible around people, sure no one cared about him at all.
“In this great big world, there wasn’t one person who gave a shit if I lived or died.”
That all changed when Cole and his father moved next door to Mace and Mia his seven year old daughter. Cole finally gets to know what it feels like to have a family, people who actually love him and don’t use him as a punching bag. Even with the age difference between them Mia and Cole grow very close. Both of them loyal and loving, doing whatever they have to in order to protect the people they love. So when all the dark Cole thought he escaped comes back to light he is forced to make a decision no teenage boy should have to, he chooses to sacrifice for the only people who have ever loved him.
“Came from shit, have had one bright light in the dark hell I’ve lived in, gotten used to being in the light, Mia, I ain’t going back to the dark.”
Cole is gone for a few years and when he returns things are different, very different. Mia is in College and Cole Is not the same boy she remembers. His demons have taken hold of him but Mia vows to not give up on the boy she loves, maybe has always loved.
“You’re lost, Cole, but you can find your way home; the candle has been in the window since you left and we’ve been waiting.”
This story follows Mace, Mia and Cole through many years. Through hell and back, from dark to light. The power of love and perseverance shines through in this book. I loved this story so much. I laughed, I cried, I even swooned. I thought the slow build up for Cole and Mia fit perfectly with this story, no insta-love here people. With all the go through is it even possible for them to be together as more then friends? Can they find their happily ever after? I adored so many characters in this story, but my favorite had to be Mia’s Dad Mace. Strong, kind and loved his family unconditionally. Plus the guy was super hot and that’s never a bad thing. This was my first read by this Author and definitely not my last.
“She wasn’t just the light that led me home, she was my home.”
