Branna Murphy is broken. For months now she has been a part of a one-sided relationship to a man she loves more than life itself. She prayed for a miracle, and hoped something would change, but found that was wishful thinking.
Talking didn’t work. Shouting didn’t work. Crying didn’t work. Nothing bloody worked.
Ryder Slater is furious. For months now he has been lying to a woman he would take a bullet for in order to protect her. He is involved in something that goes deeper than his old past, and if he strays off target, people will start to die. People he loves.
He couldn’t talk. He couldn’t slip up. He couldn’t lose focus. He couldn’t do a damn thing.
Things between Ryder and Branna are at rock bottom, and Ryder knows it. Not only will he be taking on a force that could destroy his whole family, but he will be battling tooth and nail to save his relationship and keep the love of his life by his side.
Ryder targeted Branna from the first moment he saw her, and what Ryder targets, Ryder dominates.
Another Slater Brothers book you say? Hell yes I am all over them hot men, Oh the book, I meant the book! I swear L.A. Casey’s stories just keep getting better and better as this series goes on. I still have a soft spot for Dominic and Bronagh but damn this book was so good! I devoured every single word. Here I was thinking these characters could not possibly get any more intense and then BAM Ms. Casey gives us Ryder and Branna’s story, and what a story it was.
Ryder and Branna has always been the one solid constant in what sometimes could be the total chaos of the life they lived. As the oldest to their siblings they had a lot on their plates and always had everyone else’s best interest at heart and most of the time put their siblings needs before their own. They had been together for five years now but lately things between had been different. When we met the two it was all intense and insane chemistry. When the Slater brothers love they love something fierce. It’s all in for them, but for over the past year to has seemed like the love they once shared was a distant thing. At least to Branna it seems that way and she can’t for the life of her figure out where things went wrong.
“Ryder and I, we both changed. Somewhere along the line, we stopped being nice to one another.”
Ryder Slater had a secret, one he couldn’t share with the love of his life Branna and he knew deep down it was destroying her. He could see the hurt in her eyes when they would pass by each other or when she would take her stuff and sleep in Dominic’s old room. It was breaking his heart, to him it felt like the only possible way to protect her was to keep her in the dark. Yet at what cost?
“ I didn’t realize it then , but Ryder had the power to break me the moment he locked his eyes on mine in Darkness, and there wasn’t a damn thing I could do about it.”
This book flashes back between the present and when they first met five years ago, and I loved that the author gave that to us. We got to see the real Ryder and Branna, to fall in love right along with them. It was crazy intense and has some hot as hell moments. They loved each other so much and built upon it for five years, so where and how did things go from so good to so bad?
“Everything about you blends perfectly with me, and I know that if I didn’t have you around me all the time, I’d go crazy. You’re my one, I know you are.”
But what happens if the strongest bong breaks, will it change everything? Or will Ryder do everything in his power to save what is his? After all he is a Slater brother.
“Loving you is easy Ryder, but trusting you isn’t.”
“Just tellin’ you like it is,” I smirked. “Kid.”
Ash growled. “You have five-seconds.”
I stood up and quickly scurried around to the other side of our work counter, and placed my hands in front of my chest.
“Ash,” I warned, my voice low. “Don’t even think about it.”
He rounded the station and advanced on me, a smirk playing on his lips.
“Don’t!” I said firmly, hoping my no-bullshit-demeanour would give him reason to stop.
It didn’t, if anything, it only fuelled the freak to come at me faster.
“No!” I shrieked and made a move to dive behind the counter but Ash was too fast, and caught me mid-air.
He set me down, and full on assaulted my sides with his fingertips as he tickled me. I laughed, shrieked some more, and did the strangest moves known to man as I made my bid to escape the terror.
“Mercy!” I laughed. “For the love of God, mercy!”
Ash pulled back on his tickling but kept hold of me as I steadied myself and came down from my laughing high. I was about to playfully sucker punch him and make a run for the break room when I heard my name being… bellowed.
