The New York Times bestselling hockey series featuring the Carolina Cold Fury continues as the team’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.

Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.

Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.

This installment of the Cold Fury Hockey team is based on Hawke. Hawke date a girl name Vale for 4 years starting at around the age of 16. He was like love her life and vice versa. They are inseparable and cannot breathe and function without the other. They completed each other…until they didn’t. Hawkes career was taking off and at the same time Vale breaks his heart. Not just breaks it but demolishes it. Just as he is about to leave to start his career she breaks up with him and tells him she doesn’t love him…Hawke takes off to start his new career and new life without Vale…and it is the hardest thing he has to do.

Fast forward….Vale sweeps back into Hawkes life….not just into his life but into his career. Yep, she now works for Cold Fury Hockey Team…the very team he was just added onto.

During this book you see Vale and Hawke reconnecting and trying to be civil. Hawke is hardened after all these years and angry that she broke his heart and never contacted him all these years and by the way she is acting and giving him the cold shoulder he wonders if what they had was ever real at all. Vale on the other hand knows why she broke his heart and pushed him away was wrong but she is hurt wondering why after he left he never returned her emails and voicemail’s…..well naturally its because he never got them…..and so it goes the tale of two loves finding their way back to each other after a horrible chance of miscommunication….its a storyline I have read before and wasn’t all that taken with. While the writing was good and kept me reading….it was just an ok read for me. There is a few other storylines intertwined in there love story that kept me interested and the sex scenes were decent…Wasn’t a great book but good and will definitely read more from this author.
