A Brit on the Side_final cover_AMZCover Design: Sarah Hansen/Okay Creations
Release Date: August 15, 2016

Bea’s English escape plan:
• Work in a real British castle
• Quality time with bestie
• Figure out what spotted dick really is
• Fall for bestie’s older brother. Hard.

Bea Gillespie would rather do anything than teach summer school math two classrooms down from her ex-fiancé. So when her best friend, Scarlett, invites her to England for the summer to work in her family’s castle-turned-hotel, she jumps at the chance.

Now Bea’s an ocean away from her problems at home, but she’s got a bigger one. A British one. Scarlett’s older brother, Jasper, is at Castle Calder for the summer, too. And he’s as sexy and smart as Bea remembers. Two years ago Jasper came stateside, and he and Bea shared a hot weekend. But that’s all it was — a weekend. One she purposely didn’t tell Scarlett about.

It didn’t feel like much of a secret until now. As Bea falls for Jasper, what started off as a fling begins feeling more and more like the kind of thing you’d gush about to your best friend. If you hadn’t been lying to her all along.

Bea has just ended her engagement to Theo and would just like to escape working beside him all summer. Thank goodness for her best friend Scarlett who invites her to work in an English castle that’s turned into a hotel. Waiting on posh British families and working in the kitchen might be just the distraction she needs if it weren’t for her best friend’s brother Jasper showing up. Oh, did she forget to mention to Scarlett that they had a fling when he visited the States? Oops…
“‘I don’t know. You might argue there’s a certain chemistry.’ I move my hand back to my lap ‘Or maybe you wouldn’t.’

Jasper’s expression flickers and the corner of his mouth turns up. ‘Are you kidding me?’

I lick my lips again. ‘You tell me.’

Jasper doesn’t say anything, although his hand on the back of my neck says a lot. But it’s his lips on mine that speak volumes.”

What a cute, light romance. There’s a slow burn between Jasper and Bea that I adore. Light flirting and little miscommunications abound in this story but the biggest issue is with Scarlett and her issues with her older brother. Add in Bea’s body image issues and we have a nice story of growth and deepening of friendship and love. All of the characters learn a little more about each other by the end of the story and the importance of sharing their feelings and communicating. This story is a quick sweet read and I really liked it.

This adorable book is a series so we will be getting Scarlett’s story soon. I am pretty excited to read what this feisty best friend has going on in the art world and what kind of trouble she’s stirring up.

About the Author

I’m a displaced New Yorker living in the UK. I lived in London for nearly six years, but now I’m living in The North, in a tiny English village. There are sheep everywhere! Sheep!! (This is so strange to me I always have to say it twice. With multiple exclamation points.)

My novels are about teens and twenty-somethings kissing. I especially love writing sweet moments that end with a sizzle. For more info on all of my books (including one you can read for FREE), visit my website at http://brendastjohnbrown.com.

I like running and Doritos, not necessarily in that order. I also like libraries, old churches and Paris. One day I’m going to write a novel set in Paris, which will necessitate lots of trips for “research.”
