The Promise by Melody Grace is
Claire Fortune arrives in Boston with an old notebook and her best friend’s dying wish – to finish the scribbled bucket list that Hope didn’t have time to complete. Moment by moment, Claire builds a life she never dreamed of – until Theo walks into the coffee-shop one crisp September afternoon, and her careful plans scatter on the winds.
Sometimes a chance meeting can change a life forever.
Sometimes fate knows exactly what we need.
Perfect for fans of ‘Me Before You’ and ‘The Fault in Our Stars’, ‘The Promise’ brings together two people searching for a love that can overcome tragedy. A heartbreakingly romantic novel that challenges us to live – and love – every day as if it were our last.

The Promise, so much can be packed into the meaning of those two words. So much can be said about the utter beauty and profound heartache that is this story. This was a hard read, but I didn’t ugly cry with this book. Oh no, with this book I had tears silently pouring down my face as I clutched the box of tissues to my chest hoping it would somehow make the heartache more bearable. I often wonder as a reader when a book hurts this bad how the Author gets through writing a story like this. The sheer amount of passion Melody Grace had for these characters and their story shines through.
This is the type of story it’s hard to write a review on for a few different reasons. One I feel l like whatever I say won’t possibly do this story justice and two I don’t want to give too much away. So I will try for a short review with as little info as possible and see how that goes.
In this story we meet 19-year old Claire who makes the decision to uproot from her small hometown to the busy street of Boston to keep a promise she made to her best friend Hope before she died. To live her life to the fullest by completing her best friends bucket list.
“ I’m tagging you in the grand game called life.”
Hope’s bucket list took Claire way out of her comfort zone and although nervous Claire was anxious to begin her adventure and mark some things off the list. Kiss a stranger, sneak into a concert. Seemed achievable and Claire was determined to stay on track and keep her promise. But sometimes fate steps in and the sexy stranger who walked into the coffee shop where she had gotten a part time job was most definitely not on the list.
“I wasn’t looking for a man to walk through the door and change my life. I wasn’t that girl at all.”
Sometimes when you least expect it life puts something or in this case someone in your path that changes everything. Everything. This is how it was for Claire and Theo. Claire so strong and determined while Theo was protective and so trusting. They were building something so beautiful together but sometimes life has other plans and the heartache of that can consume you. This is a very emotional story of love and loss. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking and you will feel everything in this story. This is one that will stay with you long after you finish it, I highly recommend this book.
“Promise me one thing. Promise me you’ll live.”
