Synopsis

The rules of the game don’t apply off the field in this first Barons novel.

New York Barons tight end Gavin Brawley is suspended from the team and on house arrest after a video of him brawling goes viral. Gavin already has a reputation as a jerk with a temper on and off the field—which doesn’t help him once he finds himself on the wrong side of the law. And while he’s been successful professionally, he’s never been lucky when it comes to love.

Noah Monroe is a recent college grad looking for a job—any job—to pay off his mounting student debt. Working as Gavin’s personal assistant/babysitter seems like easy money. But Noah isn’t prepared for the electrifying tension between him and the football player. He’s not sure if he’d rather argue with Gavin or tackle him to the floor. But both men know the score, and neither is sure what will happen once Gavin’s timeout is over…

Gavin doesn’t want any help after he’s sentenced to house arrest and suspended from his NFL football team but his agent insists upon one. Noah just lost his last job in social work because slept with the wrong man at work. The two couldn’t be more opposite but Noah takes the job to help out his unemployed father and pay back student loans. With an antagonistic beginning these two slowly navigate working together while an unexpected attraction blossoms. Will a closeted football player with anger issues and a nerdy personal assistant find a way to work and play together?

“A man who could have anyone he wanted, man or woman, had acted like a brush of my lips had given him life. And that was fucking surreal. And dangerous.

It could never happen again.”

Wow…I loved Gavin and Noah’s story. Like Noah, I’m not a huge sports fan. These two clash constantly because nerdy Noah has preconceived notions about how easy and privileged Gavin’s hetero life must be and Gavin doesn’t want someone with him constantly that might sell him out in the end. But really….it’s all about the off the charts attraction, people! I love the way the author deals with all of the emotions that develop between these two and the real life issues they face when the world intrudes. I actually was tearing up at some of the tough decisions. Noah really seemed to bring out Gavin’s soft side. I’m such a sucker for the tough guys with the marshmallow centers!

I really would love to read Simeon’s story. The guy with the endorsements and a secret life has come out as gay. I want to see if Simeon is going to keep being his crazy self or will this make him all introspective and ready to settle down.

About Santino Hassell

SH-image-229x300

Santino Hassell was raised by a conservative family, but he was anything but traditional. He grew up to be a smart-mouthed, school cutting grunge kid, then a transient twenty-something, and eventually transformed into an unlikely romance author.

Santino writes queer romance that is heavily influenced by the gritty, urban landscape of New York City, his belief that human relationships are complex and flawed, and his own life experiences.
