Synopsis

On the northeast side of town, there is a house.

The house was once magical, filled with love and joy and plans for the future.

Inside its walls are many things that belong to me — my books, the china from my mother on my wedding day, the beautiful cage once home to two birds, now empty, just like me.

And a man.

A man who also belongs to me.

A man I no longer wish to keep.

A man who, no doubt, has not slept, though the sun is rising. Because the house where he waits is where I laid my head to rest every night for eight years. Until last night.

No one who knows me would believe Charlie Pierce, the quiet, bookish girl who never made waves is pulling out of the driveway of a man who isn’t her husband.

But they don’t know me at all.

I don’t even know me.

Not anymore.

They say there are two sides to every story, and I suppose in most cases, that’s true. But the one I live inside of? It has three.

On the northeast side of town, there is a house.

But there is no longer a home.

This book, oh my aching heart. When I read the blurb I just knew I had to read it. I went in with high hopes that it was going to be good and Kandi Steiner delivered! There was so much love and heartache and crazy emotions that just filled the pages in this story. I was invested within the first few pages and oh my goodness this book was intense. SPOILERS! Yes, there is a love triangle and so yes, there is cheating and hey, if we are throwing it all out there I might as well mention there is a huge ass cliffhanger. But please don’t let any of that deter you from reading this book. It is truly one of the best books I have read in a long time.

“They say there are two sides to every story, and I suppose in most cases, that’s true. But the one I lived inside of? It had three.”

Charlie and Cameron were a happily married and loving couple once upon a time. But profound loss changes you, it takes the person you once were and shapes you into someone different. So this is how we meet two people struggling with the after of what happened to them. And my goodness my heart ached for the both of them. Charlie just trying to go on with any semblance of normal she could find and desperately trying to stay connected to Cam who shut himself off from her.

“I would wait for her. I would wait forever.”

Just when you feel like Charlie can’t take anymore and is teetering on the edge of breaking, she is introduced to the new music teacher at the school she loves and works at. That teacher just happens to be Reese, the first boy she ever loved. These two right away you can feel that there is so much history there and so much love. And so begins the love triangle and my goodness, it’s a crazy intense one.

“The ring on her finger was the symbol of her commitment to another man, but it didn’t matter. I loved her anyway.”

I struggled so much throughout this book with who I thought was right and wrong. Or even if there was a right and a wrong. It was tough because Charlie and Cam loved each other and what happened just broke them. They didn’t deserve it, and I think both just dealt with it the only way they could and got lost. Then there was Reese who had his own demons, but I think truly loved Charlie too. I don’t know where the Author will take us next with this one, and I only hope my aching heart can handle it because I am desperate to see if these three find their way home.

“They say there are two sides to every story, and it was in that moment, in that dark, desperate snapshot of my life that I realized I hadn’t asked him for his.”

About the Author

Kandi Steiner

Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.

Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).

When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.
