The Truth About Lies (The Truth Duet, #1)
Truth: From over a thousand miles away, I watched on the screen of my phone as two men murdered my wife. And I was helpless to save her.
Consumed by hate and rage, I spent four years running from my memories.
Until a shattered woman gave me a reason to stop.
Cora lived in a nightmare, but through sheer force of will, she’d turned it into something beautiful. She had a smile that could pierce the darkest soul. And with one glance, she shredded mine.
Lie: I was only there for a fresh start.
Lie: I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Lie: There was nothing I could do to save her, either.
But that’s the thing about lies—you never know who to believe.

Oh my goodness!!!!! I am an emotional wreck! This freakin’ book had me all happy and so excited and then bam! Aly takes my heart, stomps on it and laughs! WOW! Seriously one of the best books I have read in a long time. Full of angst, tension, turmoil, just all the feels!!
Cora and Penn are one very unlikely couple. Both have been through hell and back. Both have been dealt a crap hand in life. But for a brief time they both find the ultimate happiness. With each other. They make my heart happy. If two characters ever deserved a happy ending, it’s these two!
Aly is a phenomenal writer. Her stories are addictive and powerful and this one is no different. I ended this book in tears. I need the other book in this duet or I might go insane! I have to know. The twist and turns need to be revealed! Could not get enough!!

Cora feels like she can never escape her living nightmare. She’s stuck running a whorehouse like a house mother and treated like she’s less than dirt. But she’ll fiercely protect two underage girls and help them to try to escape this life. Until broken Penn and his brother Drew come into her life to help with maintaining the building. They each throw a bump into the other’s life. Both have secrets. Both tell lies. And you never know who to believe.
“She looked at me like I was a hero.
Like I was some sort of savior sent from above.
Like I could possibly drag her from the pits of hell.
I couldn’t even save myself and she thought I could save her?
And, fucking worse, I wanted to.
But I wasn’t that man.
At least not for her.”
So freaking addictive and classic Aly Martinez that I couldn’t even begin to process this ending. Tears and an overabundance of emotions overwhelmed me and I had to wait until I got myself back under control to write this review. All I can say is this story was outstanding. Cora and everything that woman has gone through would make lesser women just give up. Lose all hope. But she’s like this little star that won’t stop shining. She still has plans and hopes. And Penn…that man. After the tragedy he endured, he still can’t sit back and not speak up. It’s not his nature. He’s a true hero. He protects the weak and risks it all for what he cares about. This story touched my soul and I sobbed at the ending. I can’t wait to find out what happens next for Cora. I’m on the edge of my seat needing to know.
If you love an emotional story that tugs at your heart, you need to read this duet. I was so hooked on the characters and what pains they were going through that I could not put this book down. You just need to know how they are going to make it out of this horrible mess.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.
Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.
She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
