Dark of Night by Emily Goodwin
Release Date: April 22nd, 2019
Dark of Night, a sexy and exciting paranormal romance in the Thorne Hill series by New York Times bestselling author Emily Goodwin.
Everything has a cost.
I never thought the cost of falling in love could be my life. But when the Vampire Council gets reports of increased magical activity in the surrounding areas, they give the order for vampires to kill any witches they come across. I trust Lucas to never hurt me, but he’s not the only vampire in my life, and let’s just say the others aren’t my biggest fans.
While I’m busy trying not to become vampire chow, something dark and powerful is surrounding Thorne Hill, infecting everything—and everyone—that gets in its path. If the darkness gets to the Ley line, then the whole town is doomed.
I won’t go down without a fight, but how can I fight something I can’t even see?

Book two in the Thorne Hill series picks up right where we were left with that huge cliffhanger at the end of book one. Lucas and Callie are busy fighting zombies and demons and whatever else is thrown at them or summoned from the dead. Basically just the typical happenings in Thorne Hill when these two are involved.
In Dark of Night we do get a lot more answers to questions surrounding Callie’s past and why her relationship with her family is the way it is. I will say her so called father and brother are by far my least favorite characters. I’d take the super decayed attic zombie over either of them.
Callie and Lucas are super hot and heavy in this book and are totally in love. And for some reason they felt the need to constantly remind us about it over and over again. Yeah, I know I should give them a break and let them be all lovely dovey, but it grated on my nerves a bit. I honestly found myself skimming through some of those pages as it was a bit overkill for me. Moving on. Callie is still trying to figure out all her powers and why she is different from other witches and Lucas always has her back, because he is great like that. They make a pretty bad ass evil fighting team.
“I’m a witch and you’re a vampire, but I swear to the heavens above we were meant to be.”
Evil is still lurking near the Ley line and trying to go after the witches, so Callie and her friends and Lucas are always prepared to fight. Lucas will do anything to protect the one he loves, but how far is he willing to go and what happens when they break a rule of the Coven? Can they stay together when their relationship is forbidden by some of those closest to them?
“He’s a vampire, I’m human. He won’t age. I’ll get old. He’ll live forever. I’ll die. We love each other, but is love enough?”
This was a really good read, I just personally liked the pace and storyline a bit better in the first book. This one does end on a huge cliffhanger and I was like no, don’t go and do this to me again, Emily Goodwin! Hopefully we won’t have that long to wait for the next book because I need some answers and can’t wait to see what happens next!
I swallow hard, well aware that Lucas can hear my heart start to race. Inhaling deep, I rest my head against his chest.
“I’ll tell you,” I whisper. “I want you to know. Just don’t…don’t judge me for it.”
“I helped you bury the same body twice. And I didn’t judge you then.”
I laugh, but it’s too high-pitched compared to my normal laugh. I’m nervous, and it’s obvious. “Well, don’t think differently of me then. Specifically, don’t pity me. I can’t stand when people do.”
“I won’t,” he promises. “And if you’re not ready to talk, I can wait. I’ve waited over a thousand years for you, what’s a few more months?”
“I love you.” I tip my head up, looking into his deep blue eyes. “You know that, right?”
“You could prove it with sex.”
This time when I laugh it’s the real thing. Lucas has that way about him. He calms my nerves. Makes me feel safe. Wanted. Loved. He’s everything I could ever want in a partner.
“Now I’m thinking about you naked.” I wiggle my eyebrows. “Do you have to go back to the bar tonight?” Proving my love to him just might take all night. We’re good like that.
“Not tonight.” In one swift movement, he stands and puts me on the desk. “Tonight, I’m all yours.” He pulls the tie on my robe and moves between my legs. I lean back, propping myself up on my elbows. Heat floods through me just by seeing the look in Lucas’s eyes, the one that lets me know he’s going to devour me, drinking from me and fucking me so hard I’m still going to feel it in the morning.
I wrap my legs around him, bringing him closer. Feeling his big cock harden against me always turns me on. Knowing he’s getting hard for me…that I’m the one he wants…
Fangs drawn, he kisses me hard before moving his mouth to my neck. His fangs graze over my skin, causing a shiver to make its way through me. My mouth falls open as a soft moan escapes my lips. My eyes close, and I slide my hands up his back, fingers digging into my skin.
He retracts his fangs and sucks at the skin on my neck, knowing what that sensation does to me. I rake my nails up his back, pressing hard. Even if I were to tear open his skin, he’d heal in seconds.
He pushes me back, sliding the robe down over one shoulder. I bring my arms back, and let the robe slip off. Lucas looks me over and draws his fangs again. He dives back on me with a growl, one hand going to the back of my head, bunching up my hair in his fist. His other hand lands on my thigh and slowly slides up toward my core.
