Monica James is a go-to favorite author for me and I was excited to read another one of her books. Especially one that promised to be a little different at that. I’ve loved the angst, heartbreak, love and darkness she has given us in some of my favorite books so I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what Chase The Butterflies had in store for us.

“I don’t know why, but I suddenly tremble, sensing something bad, something life changing on the horizon.”

I devoured the pages of Victoria and Jude’s story as the author took us on the most unexpected journey. One like I haven’t experienced before. What I thought was happening was so much more and so out of the realm of what I thought I knew was even possible. Plot twist? Maybe one of the biggest and most shocking I have ever read. When I finished I was so torn. I honestly wasn’t sure what my thoughts were on the book. Then I decided to give it a day and go back and do a re-read. I found so much that I missed or rather overlooked the first time around. I think in my rush to devour the pages I didn’t take the time to appreciate all it was. What it was is an extraordinary love story.

“The answers were there all along. I just didn’t know where to look.”

What was supposed to be an exciting day for Victoria turned out to be a day she would never forget but for all the wrong reasons. An unspeakable tragedy and an unforeseen turn of events brings Jude into her life. The author takes us along with these two amazing characters through a story that is unforgettable and so completely unique. A story of heartbreak, unconditional love and sacrifice. I won’t say more as to not give anything away because it is truly one of those stories you should go into blind. Though there is no way to prepare for a story like this, I will say go slow and don’t rush like I did the first time reading it. Let yourself take in each word and detail as Monica James takes you on a journey you won’t soon forget.
