The enemy of my enemy is my friend…
I never thought my father would ask this of me, to become the second generation at Eagle Elite University, to rule with an iron fist, and to take care of anyone who gets in our way.
But ever since the incident.
Ever since Him.
There’s been a war in our little clique.
After all, a house divided cannot stand.
He’s the problem, not me.
He used to kiss me like I was his oxygen.
Now he looks at me like I’m his poison.
But we both drank it, again and again, never believing there would be a day when our love would start a war.
And our friendship would shatter into a million pieces.
Then again, the worst thing you could do in the mafia is hang on to hope that your life will be normal.
The second worst thing?
Fall in love with your best friend.
Enemy.
And heir to the Nicolasi throne.

Fans of the Eagle Elite series rejoice! With Ruthless Princess, Rachel Van Dyken throws us not so gently back into the dark, crazy and twisted world of the mafia. And no one writes a mafia romance quite like her. The original Eagle Elite are all grown up and this story with all its chaos belongs solely to the next generation…their kids. While this can be read as a stand-alone if you haven’t read Eagle Elite you’re definitely missing out on some crazy, amazing stories so do yourself a favor and go back and read them all. Believe me, you want to. Can we also take a moment to appreciate that kick ass cover? Amazing! Buckle up for this one folks. It’s one hell of a wild ride.

“Blood in. No out.”

Serena and Junior grew up knowing exactly who their parents were, what world they were all from and what would be expected of them within the family. There was never a normal for them. The mafia was all they knew. I guess you could say that was their normal. Luckily for them, they had each other to count on through it all. They were best friends. Until they weren’t. Until they were something more. Something forbidden that could only result in death and destruction.

“ Mine. It had all been mine. Until we were forced to choose. And choosing her would have killed us all.”

It’s their senior year and Serena and Junior are meant to rule the school at Eagle Elite. They are the Prince and Princess. Future Queen and King of their world and it’s time for them to step into their roles and do what’s right for the family. Even if they do hate each other most of time. These two are at each other’s throats constantly and the banter back and forth is crazy. I love it. I loved them! They may try and put out there what they want the world and their parents to see, but they are fiercely loyal and protective of each other. Yes, they have to be since they technically work together or along side each other, but it’s blatantly more. They walk the very thin line between love and hate. But one will surely get them killed if they aren’t careful. Are they willing to pay the ultimate price for breaking their vows to their family?

“I would die for a kiss like this. I would commit murder. I would burn down the world.”

I loved Serena…like really, really loved her. She was so kick ass and amazing. The cover is exactly how I picture her. Then there’s Junior. I loved him too. I loved everything about the way they loved and hated each other. It was chaos, a shit ton of angst and it was all fantastic. I also really enjoyed the cousins and some other secondary characters in this book. Plus getting to see some of the OG’s was an added bonus. This second generation is just as crazy as the first.

“I had hope. Hope that maybe, just maybe, the King who’d just crowned me would kneel instead of drawing his sword.”

So much happened in this story that sometimes I couldn’t keep it straight. Yes, there were parts that were so unbelievably out there I was like no way. I mean who keeps a knife strapped to their leg and a lethal syringe in their boot just in case? Well, not me that’s for sure. Then I remembered what world we were in and it all just fit. There’s death, murder and chaos in this story. But there’s also unwavering loyalty and a beautiful love story. This was a great read and I can’t wait for more!

“Hate you for as long as we both shall live.”

He licked his lips and repeated what he always did when we had to perform, when we had to do our jobs. “I won’t be gentle with you.”

Our foreheads touched, my chest heaved with exertion like it was hard to breathe when he was so near, but really it was the promise that killed me, a promise that he wouldn’t enjoy touching me ever again, that I was more curse than cure, and yet, I knew it was all we would ever get, these fleeting moments where we did our job too well. “Then make it hurt, baby.” My voice cracked. “Make it hurt.”

His lips parted in a groan as he spun me into his arms and crushed his mouth to mine. It was part pain, part pleasure as he pulled my hair then slid a hand up my shirt like nobody was watching when everyone was.

We broke apart, mouths swollen, my lower lip was bleeding.

A reminder for both of us—this was no cease-fire, this wasn’t real, it was all a carefully constructed show.

“Mmmmm…” I smirked. “Looks like Junior’s not playing around tonight, ladies.”

Screams went up as Junior grabbed my ass and squeezed so hard, I knew I would bruise later. He roughly pulled me against his chest and nipped at my neck.

I told my body it didn’t feel good.

I told my heart we were safe.

And I forced myself to believe the lie every single time we touched.

Because to do otherwise—would destroy me.
