This book was so different from anything I have read in such a long time in the best way possible. I was a little confused at the beginning because there was so much to absorb. But once I caught on and got deeper into the story, it just kept getting better and better. The author does a fantastic job pulling and immersing us into this amazing, beautiful, different and often overly cruel fantasy world.

“Human beings are masters of the extinction game.”

Long ago when animals were near extinction, hybrid beings were born. They formed four Kingdoms. Kingdom A, B, R and OM. But once upon a time there were five. The fifth Kingdom, Cetacean, was destroyed by those who feared their power. Somehow a few of the Cetacean survived the genocide and over two hundred years later seventeen year old Siren has been sent with a few others on a mission to return to the place her people once called home, Earth.

“Everything seemed to flash before me. Brief snippets of a story I would one day have to string together into a linear tale that would make sense to me.”

On the way to start her mission Siren’s pod crashes in Kingdom Om and she is saved by Aedan, leader of the OM. Brought back to his Kingdom to heal she is an outsider and not welcomed by many. She must always be sure to hide who she truly is for fear of death. Yet Aedan and Siren are drawn to each other. He promises her his protection while Siren knows she must do anything she can to escape and finish her mission if her Breed has any chance of survival.

“He was bound to someone. Promised. And he had given me my first kiss. My first experience with human contact.”

Tension is high in OM and there are so many secrets, betrayals, twists and turns tucked within every corner. Siren has her mission and Aedan must do whatever is necessary to protect his people from the Breed threatening to literally devour them. There is just so much going on in this book, but it somehow all works together to make an absolutely amazing story. I don’t want to say much more and give too much away. I loved Siren and Aedan and several of the secondary characters. I even grew to like a few people I thought I hated. While a few others quickly landed on my list of people that the reptiles can just have.

“In Aedan, I saw everything that was right with humanity. He was strong. He was kind. He was sensitive.”

If you’re a fan of fantasy, paranormal and dystopian please read this book. Everything about it was brilliant. Even with that huge cliffhanger we were left with. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for the next book!
