This book owned me from start to finish. I was one hundred percent invested in every single word and every detail tucked within the pages. It has been a while since I read a friends to lovers romance and this one reminded me of all the reasons I need to read more. It was amazing. So much emotion, so much angst and so much love were in this book. I laughed. I cried. I got angry and I held on tight during all the ups and downs. Definitely one of my favorite reads this year!
โI have loved Bennett Jamison all my life. When his father placed him in my arms at two years old. I knew Bennett Jamison was born to be mine.โ
Aspen and Bennett have known and loved each other all their lives but they lived and loved by a set of rules. Rules written on skin that drew lines neither was meant to cross. Both of them constantly straddling the line of what is right and what is wrong. But what happens when one of them no longer wants to play by the rules?
โI kiss her like Iโve wanted from the first time she cried in my arms and begged me to break the rules. In this one kiss, I pour every ounce of love I have for her. She has to know the rules are torture for me too. And itโs only in these exceptions we can be free.โ
I loved the connection between Bennett and Aspen. You could absolutely feel how they shared a lifetime full of love, friendship and memories. Aspen wanted more and she deserved more. They both did. As much as Aspen tried to bend and break the rules, Bennett tried to hold onto them and live by them. So much push and pull constantly going on. The angst was off the damn charts. Some of the scenes between them were on freaking fire. I swear I was melting right along with the pages. Determined to get out of the friend forever zone, Aspen asks for something that Bennett surprisingly agrees too but will it break them?
โIf a relationship like ours is once in a lifetime, then I want to remember what it felt like to love her, for once, without consequences.โ
I absolutely fell in love with both of these characters. They owned me the entire book. Aspenโs determination, caring and love for Bennett and his for her. They were a thousand percent meant to be together and I was hoping they took the marker and rules and tossed them out. I think the only problem or thing that bothered me about this book was the reasoning behind why Bennett held on so tightly to the rules. I mean I got it a little as we went deeper into the story but it just still felt like I didnโt fully get the why. Besides that this story was absolutely brilliant. And that ending? It was perfection. This was my first read by this author and I canโt wait to read more!
