Book two of the Royal House Series was everything I had hoped it would be and so much more. We waited a long time for this book and believe me this book did not disappoint one bit. Once again K.A. Linde pulls us into an amazing world full of magic, secrets, intrigue and best of all, dragons.
“There’s never been half-Fae society member. Let alone one who earned her spot below the age requirement, who hadn’t officially entered, who didn’t have a tribe, and who was part of the house of dragons.”
Kerrigan has just become the first half-Fae to ever win the dragon tournament and become a member of society. She’s now a dragon rider and for as many people who celebrate her victory, there are just as many who remind her that she doesn’t belong. Before the grueling training that is part of the last step before she officially gets her robes, she must travel to the House of Shadows with Fordham. A place Kerrigan has only heard about through whispers and legends and Fordham isn’t sure he will be welcomed back into with open arms.
“Then, as one, they crossed the border that led into the House of Shadows.”
Power, alliances, betrayals and secrets. Oh, how the secrets and mystery in this book were waiting around every corner. Not everyone and everything are as they seem. Could Kerrigan and Tieran make it through the program without a bond or will their secret be revealed? Who is the master behind the red masks and how and why was the House of Shadows kept in solitude for so long?
So much happens in this book and it kept getting better and better. One of my favorite things was the character growth for Fordham. The dark prince was everything. He proved again and again that he would walk the path to truth and justice alongside Kerrigan. I couldn’t have possibly loved him anymore. Their relationship was a slow burn. I wanted so much for Ford to let go of his thoughts of curses and take what he so badly wanted. Kerrigan was once again her kick ass, authentic self and I loved it. If there was one thing I hated about this book, it was March…always March. His need for power and his quest for a crown were all done with the pure evil in his heart. There were so many twists and turns in this book and when I thought I had things figured out, I didn’t. And then that ending? Ah, I have no idea how I will survive waiting a year for the next book.
“I want to be there to see you change the world. Because I already know that you will.”
K.A. Linde is a genius and the world she so intricately weaves together inside the pages of these books is pure magic. Amazing characters and a truly brilliant and unique story. If you are a fan of fantasy, magic and dragons, this series is a must read! One of my favorite ever and I can’t wait for more!
