Book one in this duet is about Madelena and Santos. I really don’t want to give too many spoilers, but I freakin’ loved this book! They entered into an arranged marriage, agreed upon when Madelena was fifteen, and Santos sealed the deal in blood. Madelena knows this is her fate and over the next few years has no more than a few meetings with Santos. Over the next five years, Santo’s keeps a watchful eye over Madelena and ensures she is safe. Madelena and Santos’ relationship spans several years. With how the story unfolds, I consider their intimacy a bit of a slow-burn development. It’s easy to see the burning chemistry that Madelena and Santos have. You can see that even though neither say it, love is definitely growing between them. Santos and Madelena deliver a hate/love filled story that kept me on the edge until last pages…which ended in the mother of all cliffhangers! There’s a sweet balance between the mafia and romantic elements that makes this a solid dark mafia romance read. All in all, it’s a highly promising first half of the duet filled with intrigue, uncertainty, and seduction. Can not wait for the 2nd half to come out!
