Finally!! I’ve been waiting for Pax! Presley and Pax have been some of my favorites since the beginning of the series and this book did not disappoint! Their both soooo strong willed that they clash at every turn but when they’re together…Omg! So good! The ending damn near killed me! The twists and turns through out the entire series come together and you get all the answers with this one.

Callie Hart is a USA Today bestselling author of dark romance novels. She is an obsessive romantic who loves throwing a dark twist into her stories. Her characters are imperfect, flawed individuals who dictate when she eats, sleeps and breathes. She loves to travel, and often pens her books when she’s on the road, drawing inspiration from unique and wild surroundings.

If she’s not writing, you’ll undoubtedly find her with her nose buried deep in a book, hiking a mountain, or trying to perfect her downward-facing dog.

Kings of Bloog & Money by Ker Dukey ~ Release Blitz w/ 5 Star Review & Excerpt!

Title: Kings of Blood & Money
An Underworld Kings Series Standalone
Author: Ker Dukey
Genre: Mafia Romance
Release Date: October 8, 2021

This is not a story of love.

This is a story of revenge and the bond created from it.

The Gallo family took everything from us.

They killed my mother and sister, leaving me and my twin brother fighting for our lives.

My father was supposed to be there that night. He should have been there. Should have protected them—us.

When you strip a man of all he cares about, you’re left with a soulless entity seething with primal rage. He promised to turn Gallo’s bloodline to dust to get his retribution.

And he did.

All but one.

I was seven years old when I was taken in the night. I don’t remember much of life before that.

All I know now is the glaring eyes of a boy who hates me, and the comfort I find in the boy whose face mirrors his.

I’m not part of this family, but they’re all I have comparable to one.

To hate is easy.

And I do hate them.

But to love even in hate is what hardens you, strengthens you, gives you reason.

The truth is I shouldn’t love them, that all these years are leading somewhere I won’t want to go.

But I do…

Love them.

I love them both.

The only question left now is, do they love me?

This is the first book I’ve read by Ker Dukey and now I’m regretting that decision. Epically written. Completely unique and twisted storyline. Steamy with a dark twist. Loved it! Freya starts out so meek and timid. Her evolvement throughout the book was amazing. She gets stronger more brave and fierce. Sassy. Loved that! Coming from a broken home and no family she’s lonely and finds friends in Noah and Remi. And let me just tell you…Noah and Remi are all the great book boyfriend things! Alpha to the core, deliciously dirty, and protective as all hell! Loved them.

“There’s someone in my room.”

Her words break, and it’s then I notice the gentle tremble of her body. This place has more security than most max security prisons. She had no doubt just been dreaming, but I know from experience not to ignore sounds in the house.

Whipping on a pair of shorts, I double-check that my gun is loaded, already knowing it is.

Moving from the doorway, allowing me to pass, her body huddles behind me, her scent overpowering and intoxicating. She smells of tropical fruit, a hint of coconut and pineapple.

Taking the stairs two at a time, a small hand taps my back to get my attention. Freya holds a finger to her stupidly pouty lips, pointing to the step with her other hand. “Squeaks,” she mouths, her eyes wide in warning. Avoiding that step, I get to her bedroom door.

“Did you close it?” I ask on a hushed whisper.

Her head bobs up and down. A prickle of unease washes over her face. A wave of goosebumps dusts her skin. She’s too damn close. “Back up,” I say with a warning scowl.

Opening her door, I enter fast, gun raised. Silence greets me. Movement catches my eye. Her sheer drapes flap from a breeze coming in her window. They’re supposed to stay locked.

I sense her move into the room behind me as I survey every inch. I’ve never been in here before. I’m not sure what I expected, but this wasn’t it. She’s so at home here, personality in every aspect of the room. Her bed at the center, a fuzzy throw blanket, girly pillows, a discarded iPad blasting a playlist from Spotify through abandoned earphones. Fashion posters cover her walls. A mannequin draped in fabric sits in the corner. A desk covered in lights and little ornaments/ A computer switched on, a picture of some band on Google search. There’s an open wardrobe with clothes spilling out, a pile of magazines by the foot of her bed. She’s messy and really at fucking home. It turns my stomach. How fucking dare she be so at home here. My sister should be here, having this stuff, living this life.

“There’s nothing here. Apart from all your shit,” I bite out.

“I heard something, I swear it,” she pleads, holding her hand to her chest, drawing my eyes to the white camisole she’s wearing with no bra on.

Closing my eyes to stop myself from looking at her hard nipples tenting the flimsy fabric, I go to her balcony door.

“This shouldn’t be open. We have window alarms for a reason.” I snap, shoving the door closed.

“I like it open. No one could get onto the balcony. I’m too high up.”

“Nothing is impossible, and you put us all at risk with it open.”

A sudden scratching sounds from her bed, making her gasp and rush toward me, hiding her body behind mine. Her soft, supple flesh, warm and inviting, pushes against my bare back.

“Did you hear that?” she breathes.

Too close.

She’s too close.

“Don’t fucking touch me,” I growl, pushing at her shoulder for her to move the fuck away from me.

“I’m not a leper.” She rolls her eyes, folding her arms and stepping toward the bedroom door.

“Says who?” I taunt.

I creep toward her bed, throwing her sheet up and looking under it. A small black blob whizzes toward me. A screech echoes through the room from Freya losing her shit. A bat darts around the room, looking for an exit.

“Oh my god,” Freya yelps, brushing hands through her hair.

“What the fuck are you doing?” I snap, wanting to toss her over the balcony into the water below. She’s fucking crazy.

“They like hair,” she screeches. “Don’t let it get in your hair.”

Ignoring the insane dance she’s doing, I pull back her drapes and open her door. Picking up one of her stupid fluffy pillows, I try to shoo the thing out, but it flies to a bookshelf and takes up residence.

“Another reason to keep your door closed,” I huff.

“You’re going to have to pick it up,” she begs, shuddering.

“The fuck I am. They carry diseases. This seems like a you problem.” I offer her a lethal smirk, shoving the cushion against her chest. “Good luck.”

He wasn’t. He was worse.

He wasn’t just cold. He was dead inside.

It didn’t matter that he was gorgeous.

He was the most lethal thing I’d ever met.

He was also the only person who could keep me alive, if he didn’t kill me himself.

Tijan excels at writing broken and damaged characters. I devoured Canary and while it was a mafia romance…it was different than the typical ones I’ve read in the past. Canary is an emotionally traumatized survivor and we don’t quite know her story. That adds so much to the plot and makes it hard to put down. She crept into my heart and had me on edge as she tries to navigate the dark and gritty world of the mafia and cartel. I fell in love with Raize’s crew and never knowing who I could trust or who might double cross them next. Raize and Canary’s love story was a slow burn…until it wasn’t! Definitely enjoyed the few twists thrown in and this crazy new world. I hope we get more stories with these characters in the future.

“I…” I didn’t even know. I couldn’t explain what I didn’t know. “Ask me about Jake in a different way.”

“There is no other way.”

“You know there is! Ask it in a different way.” I shoved up to my feet. This was the fight here.

I was sick of the killing.

I could not handle one more body, especially not someone I knew.

My chest heaved. “Ask it in a different way.”

I liked Jake. I was hurt by what he said, but he wasn’t on my list anymore.

I frowned. “What happened with Cavers?”

“None of your business!” he erupted, his hands flying in the air, but he was moving farther away from me. His back hit the wall, and he let me see him, how haunted he was, how stricken. He let it all out for me to see and read, though I wasn’t sure he knew it. “I don’t run my decisions through some pussy I like plowing.”

Okay, now I was mad.

“Take that back,” I said quietly.

He swore, low and long. Then he moved, flipping a chair into the wall. It impaled there, and the wall held it. It looked like an abstract piece of art.

“Take it back!” I clipped out, folding my arms over my chest.

He looked away.

I didn’t know what was going on here, but fuck him if he didn’t take back calling me pussy he liked to plow.

I screamed, “Take it back!”

“No!” He was across the room and in my face in the next second. I braced myself, but he didn’t touch me.

He stopped just short of it, his breath in my cheek, his eyes taking me in, scanning my face.

He was panicking.

I saw it now, lurking there.

Good! That filled me with satisfaction.

My chest started pounding.

No, that was my heart.

It was thumping in my chest, getting stronger, faster—a steady and powerful beat now. I could feel it all the way to my toes—in my fingers, my neck. His eyes lingered on my lips.

He couldn’t look away.

Stark hunger flashed in his eyes, and he raised a hand, holding it in the air.

It curved gently, as if he wanted to touch my neck, or the side of my face.

But he didn’t move. He just held it there, a few inches from my skin.

His eyes lifted to mine. “You bitch.”

My heart still pounded, trying to reach him. “You’re a murdering asshole,” I whispered back, seething.

“What?”he sneered. “You want to fuck now? Forget you put a fucking gun to your head?”

“Don’t kill Jake.”

He pressed into me, his eyes wild, on the edge of control. “Why?” His breath was hot on me. He bent down, his eyes glittering now.

Then he found his control. He rested one hand against the wall, next to my head. The other found my hip and slid up, moving under my shirt, raising it.

God. I almost moaned.

Wetness flooded me, and I started to throb.

I wanted him.

So fucking bad.

He bent and his lips grazed over mine, my cheeks, my chin. Tingles raced through me.

I wanted him deep inside of me. I shifted, pressing against him, and both of us groaned from the contact.

I began moving, a slow grind, and he was quiet, grinding back.

This was different from the other times.

The terms had flipped. Roles were changing. Everything was being upended between us.

Veritas isn’t the type of book I would normally go for. I do like a good second chance romance but I have never been a huge fan of the single parent second chance kind of read. But I’m so glad I took a chance on this book. This extremely well written, slow burn romance has great characters, a ton of angst and a hell of a lot of steam.

“I didn’t like jagged edges. I preferred smooth, clean lines, no surprises. White paint. Dark floors. Simplicity.”

Maria likes to be always in total control. Whether it’s work or personal, contracts and deadlines are her forte. Relationships are a hard no and in their place are one-night stands or arranged encounters. Sometimes with a little non-disclosure agreement attached. To her, work is life and boy, does she work her ass off for her law firm. The same one that keeps passing her up as a partner and giving her shitty excuses as to why. But what happens when a one-night stand pushes to stick around a little longer?

Jordan was a hit it and quit it as far as Maria was concerned. He has wanted the hard as nails, beautiful bombshell for a long time and has no plans on letting her push him away. Luckily for him their law firms are in the same building. Jordan wants Maria and Maria wants no one but when she needs a wedding date she goes to Jordan for a favor and he agrees…with some stipulations of course.

“Black widows always fucked their mates before they devoured them. It was biology.”

The sexual tension between these two was off the fucking charts from the get-go. Like OMG it was hot as hell. They both carry a lot of trust issues and other baggage from their pasts. There’s also a whole lot of secrets going on. I legit loved Jordan…freaking loved him. He’s sweet and so damn sexy. I loved so much that he didn’t try and tame the fire in Maria while she tried to figure out who she was and what she really wanted. A few times he pissed me off with some of the shotgun assumptions he made. You know what they say about assuming things, right? Maria on the other hand was an I love her/I hate her kind of character for at least half of the book for me. I loved that she was a fucking powerhouse and wasn’t afraid to be her unapologetic self. But a lot of the times her reasoning just didn’t fly and she hurt others. I get that it was a defense mechanism to protect herself. I absolutely loved the amount of growth she went through in this book…both her and Jordan. I was really rooting for them to get their HEA.

“I loved that in her most vulnerable moments, I could see her. All of her.”

This story was a little off the track from what I usually read, but it was so, so good. Honestly the only reason it wasn’t a five-star read for me was Dougie. The whole thing with him wrapped up to be a weird part of the book that didn’t work for me. I get that his character sort of set this pattern with Maria for us and let us understand her a little better. But no. I thought there was going to be a love triangle in there somewhere with the hints that were dropped. I guess his whole character and the way it played out confused me…especially near the end. Dougie and Penelope are really my only issues with this otherwise fantastic read. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

“And I trusted him. Implicitly. Veritas, that was our only rule. Truth, honesty, trust.”

I’m not sure how I want to write this review. There are so many parts of this story that I loved. I love the characters in this story and the development of them. I started off loving Frankie. She was a strong woman who tried to take care of her own problems. The men in her life have let her down so she needed to be strong.

Next, you have Dante who bought Frankie from her father to repay his debts with Dante’s family. Things get in the way and it’s a rocky start for Frankie and Dante. But there is a part of me that loved how Dante became a good guy. He helped Frankie with her family. He helped Frankie with her past. Yet Frankie still doesn’t trust Dante.

There are so many moments that Frankie is madly in love with Dante and then the next second, she is running from him. He works his way back into her good graces, but then she thinks about something and no longer trusts him again. After everything Dante has done for her and I truly love his character, Frankie is just becoming annoying as hell. The ANGST in this story is driving me crazy. Never something I have been a big fan of. But I am trying my best to look past it and I need to know how this ends.
