The girl next door never looked so good…

Cameron McKenzie knows he’s damaged goods. It’s the reason he’s stayed away from Lone Pine Lake–from just about everyone but his sister Jane. By default, that often meant her pesky, crushing best friend Chloe Dawson, too.

But when he sees Chloe at Jane’s wedding, he sees something new in her. Something unexpected.

Chloe has always thought Cam hung the moon. She’s even let herself dream of a future with the brooding bad boy in her heart of hearts. After one explosive kiss, it’s time to make her move. The guy who always leaves might be tempted to stay by a no-strings offer of a summer romance.

No strings is exactly what Cameron needs to explore these confusing feelings about the beautiful girl next door. He knows he’s not worthy of their hometown’s resident good girl. But this good girl’s ready for an adventure…one that just might end up lasting a lifetime.

This is the second book in the Lone Pine Lake series by Karen Erickson. I had no idea going in that there was a book before this but didn’t feel like I was missing any bits and pieces. I’d say this quick, light and sweet read that can be read as stand alone.

Cameron McKenzie high tailed it out of his small home town as soon as he could and has avoided coming home ever since. Now he’s back in town for his sister Jane’s wedding and everything in Lone Pine Lake is just as he remembers it. Well, almost everything.

“She was off limits. Untouchable. Forbidden.”

Chloe Dawson isn’t the same girl who used to follow Cam around crushing on him since they were kids. Cam can’t help notice what a beautiful women she’s become as soon as he sees her at his sister’s wedding. He can barely keep his eyes off the women who he always thought of as his sister’s pesky friend. Now he can only think of what it would be like to kiss her and he does just that and sparks are flying everywhere. Thing is…Cam doesn’t do girlfriends and Chloe seems like the kind of girl that wants a white picket fence and the promise of forever. But she takes Cam by surprise when she offers him a deal he may not be able to refuse. Only what happens when the deal you thought you wanted turns into something more?

“No expectations, no commitment. Just some…fun to fill our summer days…and nights.”

This was a sweet, light romantic read. More so on the light part. I enjoyed Cam and Chloe in their own ways. Cam wasn’t the runaway from anything and everything because he couldn’t make a commitment bad boy everyone made him out to be. He really was a good guy underneath it all and Chloe saw that good in him even when Cam didn’t see it himself. Chloe was sweet…the town princess. Everyone loved her and despite trying not to, Cam did too. They were good together and I loved that they found their happily ever after. It was an okay read. I just found parts of the book immature for the ages they are and losing interest in parts. Also part of me not loving the book might be because the romance and steam were way over on the light side of things. But it was a cute and quick read and if you’re in the mood for something not too heavy this book might be for you!

“I love you. And I want the entire damn town to know it.”

It was such a shame that she was in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

She knew that we would come for her.

We had seen her delicate face that night, hidden in the shadows, and she had seen what we did, her gasp of horror giving her away.

She was perfection, beauty, and oozed goodness but that wasn’t going to save her from us.

No one could ever find out our secret, which meant we needed to get rid of her.

But killing her wasn’t an option and scaring her into silence wasn’t as easy of a feat as we expected. She was strong, resilient , and smart doing whatever she could to evade us.

Thus without even knowing it she turned it into a game, and so we became blood thirty wolves.

Run and we’ll find you. Keep our secret and you might live.

That is until someone else finds out what we did…

Stella had dreams of going to college but that all got sidetracked years ago when due to some unfortunate circumstances she becomes the primary caregiver for her sweet grandma. So instead of going to college and getting all the experiences that come along with that, she splits all her time between taking care of her gram and working long hours for a shitty boss in the kitchen at the prestigious Blackthorn Academy. And just her luck she ends up being in the wrong place at the wrong time and witnesses Cameron and Easton, two of Blackthorns Elite doing something that there’s no way in hell she should have seen and right away she knows she is in trouble.

“ I sprint through the dark night, hoping and praying that I’m fast enough to get away. Hoping for my life, and for my grandma’s life, that I can survive the night.”

Cameron and Eaton can’t leave a witness and know what they need to do but for some reason they decide to make sort of a deal with the beautiful girl who knows too much. She gets to live if she keeps their secret and in return they own her. It’s game on and these boys are ready to play and make Stella submit to their every command. But will the secret they are all keeping stay hidden or will the game Cameron and Easton are playing with Stella take an unexpected turn?

“They don’t know who he is or what he is capable of.”

I have read the other books in this series and enjoyed them all. I always crave a good bully read. Give me all the dark, gritty and crazy that makes up a good bully romance. I’ll gladly take it. But sadly this book didn’t click for me. I liked the mystery and the whole idea with this story but it felt so rushed and thrown together. It was a quick read but I wanted more of a build up with the whole bully love/hate aspect. I felt like this one just threw a whole bunch of random stuff in the mix really fast and I didn’t like the way it was all played out. I can see where people would enjoy it and I did really like the other books in the series. Cameron was my favorite in this story right from the start. Stella and Easton just didn’t grow on me like I hoped they would. I do look forward to reading more from these two authors and have high hopes for the next book.

“We’re all a little fucked up, and that’s okay because the best people are a little bit broken.”

“I’m bound by duty and honor, but for the next few weeks I get to have my American cake and eat her too…one decadent bite at a time.”

Isabela Lima has a plan to go to the kingdom of Gwokon, in Africa to seek out the people responsible for the death of her beloved step-mother so she needs money and fast. So what’s a history teacher on break supposed to do to get it all that money? Why not enter yourself in a virgin auction? I mean it sounds like a good plan, especially when Izzy goes out on stage and can’t take her eyes of the sexy man in the front row who just bid an insane amount of money to spend three weeks with her. She keeps telling herself she has to do this. For Mary and maybe it won’t be so bad spending three weeks with this intense and sexy stranger.

“He could never seriously date a woman from the Unites States, let alone marry her. Which was why he was buying her temporarily, and would enjoy every moment.”

Nassor couldn’t take his eyes off the beauty on the stage. He hadn’t planned to go to a virgin auction but he’s so glad he did. He’s only got a few weeks before he’s crowned King and his royal duties and obligations take over so he plans to have as much fun as he can with his three week million dollar investment. Izzy needs to get to Gwokon to find out more about the mystery surrounding Mary’s death and Nassor happens to be the future King. They both hope they can get what they want. Except Izzy needs to keep the real reasons she’s so interested in his country a secret, but we all know some secrets don’t stay hidden for long.

“I’m fucking tired of these games. Of you not believing in me. In us.”

So Nassor and Izzy travel back to Gwokon with different missions and outcomes in mind, but soon that starts to shift as what was supposed to be a way to sort of sow his wild oats before duties take over becomes so much more. For the both of them. But Nassor has tradition to follow and a country to think of and Izzy doesn’t want to stand in the way. Do these two people from two very different places stand a chance or will Izzy have to say goodbye to her King?

“I’ve waited a long time for this moment, even when I didn’t know I was waiting.”

I liked the whole idea behind this book. The blurb sucked me right in and I enjoyed both Izzy and Nassor but sadly this book wasn’t what I wanted it to be. I felt like there was so much glossed over. Where it felt like we were about to get a little more, it just moved on to the next thing and it was kind of all over the place. A lot of gaps and unanswered questions. It was also a bit on the lighter side of what I thought it would be. I expected raw and gritty and sexy and we just got bits and pieces of that. I loved how much Nassor was loyal to his country and was willing to stand up for what he thought was right. But he showed them it was okay for him to love who he wanted and that was sweet. It was a good read and do look forward to more from this author but I needed more with this story.

Sarah splits her time between caring for her younger siblings since her parents tragically died four years ago and working as a sales associate at Bliss, an upscale lingerie store. Part of her job is being a personal shopper and Jared Gaines is one client in particular that comes into the shop all too often to buy expensive lingerie for his so called long line of mistresses. He’s rude, arrogant, extremely wealthy and oh yeah to top it off he just so happens to be very sexy and demands to work with only Sarah when he comes in. Thing is Sarah can’t seem to fight off her attraction to Jared and he knows it.

“God, it’s so annoying how disgustingly attractive he is. And he knows it.”

Jared can’t get beautiful Sarah off his mind so he visits Bliss way more then he needs to and spends way too much on lingerie for the feisty girl who storms in his office demanding he take them back. He wants her but won’t admit it and she can’t keep her distance from him no matter how hard she tries. So what happens when he makes her an offer to be his fake date for a weekend with his family? Well, what else is a girl to do besides say yes and pack her bags for a weekend of endless possibilities and possible heartbreak.

“Maybe you need to hate fuck him and get it out of your system once and for all.”

I really like the whole hate to love you and fake dating books, but this one fell sort of short for me. I did like Sarah most of the time. She had a lot on her shoulders for a twenty something year old so she was more mature than I expected her to be and sometimes more mature than Jared. I had a love/hate thing going on with Jared. Parts of the book I loved him and the other parts I was like come on, this guy is driving me crazy and not in a good way. Plus he is supposed to be filthy rich but he is like I can’t rip her nightie I paid $400 for it. Dude, you have an ungodly amount of money, shred that damn nightie!! It was a tad annoying how often the price of things came up. I kinda wanted him to be an alpha asshole and be like I don’t care how much it costs and oh yeah, let me pay you ten thousand dollars to be my fake date for the weekend and I’ll be rude as I want to but the sex will be super hot. But unfortunately it was not meant to be in this book. Where are my hot sex scenes? I just felt there was a lot missing in the whole fake date part and I just didn’t connect with the characters. While I really liked the first book in this series, this one was just okay for me. I am looking forward to reading the next book because my favorite person in this book was Jared’s sister Candice so I am excited for her story!

“We are playing a game and I’m fairly certain…I will lose.”

“Mr. Gaines,” I say, pasting on my best customer smile when he lifts his gaze to mine.

His dark brown eyes flash with an unfamiliar gleam and my breath catches in the back of my throat. “Back so soon, I see.”

“You know I can’t resist you, Miss Harrison.” His smile is slow. Wolfish, if that’s really

a thing. I read it in a romance novel once, thought it was kind of silly, but right now, it’s working for Jared.

His entire demeanor right now reminds me of a predatory creature. His face is all hard lines—stern, straight nose, granite jaw, sharp cheekbones, steely eyes. Yet his mouth, his lips are soft. Full. Lush.

Shaking my head at the wayward thought, I return his smile, trying my best to remain

polite. Professional.

“Is there anything in particular you’re looking for this afternoon?” I’m surprised by how steady my voice is, considering I feel like my insides are sloshing back and forth, like I’m on a boat in the middle of the ocean.

“You don’t have anything pulled aside for my appointment?” He raises a single brow, the expression on his face practically daring me to say no.

Well, guess what? I’m about to say it.

“No, I didn’t pull anything aside.” I shrug when he glares at me. “You never told me the nature of your visit.”

He glances about, making sure no one is around, I’d assume. And lucky for him, there’s no one in the store currently. It’s the middle of the week, early afternoon. We normally don’t get too many customers at this time.

We are the only two people in here. Even Marlo has disappeared.

“Perhaps you can show me some of your newer items,” he suggests.

“I can do that.” All new arrivals are at the front of the store, so we’re in the right spot. I lead him to a table showcasing our latest bra and panty design. “Celestial is the theme for spring into summer.”

I point to the bras made of thin, sheer netting and pink silk, tiny pale pink stars stitched in a scattered pattern across the tulle fabric. They leave nothing to the imagination, and the panties are the same.

“They hide nothing.” He holds up a pair of brief-cut panties, turning them this way and that. Every time he holds underwear in those big hands of his, I melt a little inside. I don’t know why he affects me like this.

“You’re right. They don’t,” I agree, grabbing a thong and flipping it over to the thin

string of lace that makes up the backside. “But they’re terribly sweet.”

I glance up to find him watching me. “Sweet yet sexy,” I counter, my cheeks going hot

from the way he’s studying me so carefully.

“You like the celestial theme?”

I nod. Press my lips together so I don’t say something I regret. Like, I love this theme, or Do you want me to model the panties for you?

Yeah. That’s a bad idea.

Bailey is the new girl in town. New house, new school and all new people. Unfortunately for her she moved right next door to Cole who of course just happens to be super hot but also seems to loathe her for no reason at all or at least not one that she knows of. Oh and he also is the King or maybe we should call him the Alpha of Wolf Ridge High and so his word is law and what is his new law you ask? For everyone to basically treat Bailey like shit.

“I give it another month and she’ll transfer to a school where her kind belong.”

Cole wants nothing more than to make the sexy girl next door pay for what her family did and so he does anything and everything in his power to make sure she knows she doesn’t belong at Wolfe Ridge High. The problem is he can’t help his growing attraction to her and when Bailey steps in and tries to help when she should be running the other way things quickly change. All the sudden it’s like cue the super hot sex scenes. These two start walking a fine line between love and hate and to add to that there’s the whole forbidden element going on here because Cole isn’t supposed to be with Bailey. And it’s not because of what her family did to his. Oh no it’s because she’s human, and he’s well, not.

“I’m going to give it to her every way I desire. And she’s going to love taking it.”

Bully romances are a slight obsession of mine. I love them and jump at the chance to read them whenever I find them. Plus this one had the whole paranormal element to it so the blurb pulled me in hook, line and sinker. Unfortunately it just wasn’t what I really hoped it would be. I wish the author gave us more on the paranormal side. I felt like it was just lightly sprinkled throughout the book and was really hoping it would be more of the story. It wasn’t a bad story per se, I just thought the paranormal part of it would set it apart from what I’m used to and it ended up kind of just blended in the mix. I will say though that the author can for sure write some steamy scenes and I did enjoy reading those. I do look forward to reading more from this author.

“For Cole. For me. For us. What can’t be.”

It’s past midnight when I wake up. My window’s open, moonlight streaming in.

That wasn’t what woke me, though.

It wasn’t the pain of the beating, either. That’s already half-healed. By tomorrow it will be nothing.

That’s the thing about wolf discipline. It’s more about dominance and humiliation than actual pain. Casey and I aren’t in real danger.

But that doesn’t mean the shit doesn’t hurt.

I rub the stubble on my chin and blink into the darkness. There’s a tug on my wolf, pulling me to the window. And I know exactly what I’m going to see when I look out.

Even so, my heart stutters.

The little human is standing outside. Standing underneath my window, looking up.

Like she’s waiting for me and she knew I’d come. Prickles run across my skin.

She’s in the same dress she wore today—another short one, blue and white stripes. She lost the Converse, though. She’s barefooted on the crushed granite. Which must hurt her tender human feet.

I’m in gym shorts. I pull on a black tank top as I stare down at her.

She’s standing there like a fucking tribute. A virginal offering.

She must really feel guilty.

I shove the window open and pop the screen out. It’s not the first time I’ve climbed out this window, but I try not to make it look too easy when I scale across the patio overhang and drop to the gravel in front of her. “Hey.”

She’s crying. Silent tears that streak down her pale cheeks. I wonder if she ever stopped. If she’s been leaking those salty tears since she saw the ugliness that is my dad shit-faced. The scent of her tears does something to me. Makes me itchy and raw, with the need to smash things with my fists.

“Stop it.” I sound menacing. I’m not sorry. She silently called me out here. She’s gonna get what she gets. I advance on her like a fucking predator.

She backs up. She must sense how dangerous I am right now. How unhinged.

“Was it because of me?”

Of course it was because of her. But I’m not going to say that. That shit isn’t her fault.

Instead, I growl, “Stop crying for me.”

Her big brown eyes are wide. I wonder how well she can see me in the dark. Not nearly as well as I can see her.

“Stop it,” I command. “I’m the one who got the beatdown.”

“Cole.” It’s a broken syllable. So much emotion packed into one sound. Apology. Pleading. Desperation, even.

My control snaps. I snatch her face up to mine with a hand behind her head and devour her mouth. It tastes like all the emotion I heard.

Except more.

I savor gratitude and soft, supple generosity. Pent up anger. Grief.

I scoop my forearm under her ass to pick her up and slam her back against the tan stucco of her house.

She opens her lips for me, lets me in. It’s not how I imagined it.

It’s better.

More raw. Sweeter, even though I’m fucking brutal with my attack. Her lips twist over mine with the same intensity, her nails claw into my bare shoulders. I shove the bulge of my cock in the cradle of her legs, even though I know it will probably scare the shit out of her.
