Torn by Melody Anne ~ Release Blitz w/ Review

Title: Torn

Series: Torn #1

Author: Melody Anne
Genre: Romance
Release Date: April 30, 2018

Blurb

I understand how adultery happens. I know, your first thought is “Of
course you can — you’re a cheater.” That’s true, but that’s certainly not the whole
story.

That’s always what a cheater says, right? Once again, you are correct. If
you’re looking for a typical romance, then run — run far.

After ten years of marriage I realized my husband barely touched me anymore.
There was the obligational monthly sex, but even that was starting to fizzle. I
was twenty-nine and he was thirty-two. We should’ve been doing it like bunnies,
night and day, or at least a couple times a week, to be more realistic. But
that hadn’t happened in years.

It didn’t hit me until I’d been gone a couple of weeks. Then when I got home we
both fell asleep that night, me snuggled up against his back like we always
slept. But that’s all we did. We just … slept.

No big deal you say?

Wrong. It was a very big deal.

It was the night I realized we had a real problem.

I have a choice to make, but I’m so torn. Do I stay where I’m at or do I go
with Kaden, with the man who’s showing me I still have a lot to live for
…

First off, I really, really, really enjoyed this story. I love the idea behind it. I love how it was presented. I even love the parts that ripped my heart out. I’ve been there. It’s not a fun place to be. I have felt what the heroine did. I related to her in ways I don’t even want to mention. The loneliness with a room full of people is heartbreaking. I was torn with how to feel. Unfortunately, I think this book will be one you either LOVE like crazy or hate it. I don’t think there will be a lot of gray area. With that being said…I love it. I was all in the feels with this read and I can’t wait until I get the rest of the story. I am excited to get a different POV. I think the additional POV will really make this story come full circle.

If you’re looking for a get all in the feels kind of book this is definitely it. Anger, sadness, heartbreak, happiness…it’s all there in spades. SOOOO many ups and downs I couldn’t keep my head on right, but in the best way.

Oh Captain, my Captain! Wooweeeeee…I love that man. He’s smart, fierce, loyal, and protective. I enjoyed getting his backstory immensely. So much happens in this book to shape the characters is was a lot to take in. But I felt every part of it was necessary.

This was a good story and the characters were definitely some of my favorites since I have read Red’s books before. If you’re looking for a book with a lot of backstory and connection you’ve found it. Definitely a good read that I won’t be forgetting. Can’t wait for the next part of the story.

Wowza! What a story!!! Skye takes on the forbidden/taboo romance like a champ! I really enjoyed the storyline and having so much backstory to get a really good understanding of where people were at and why. That really helped this book come together so much more.

The characters were all super intense and had their own baggage that added to the story. I know one thing for sure is that I NEED MORE! That ending had me like “seriously”! I said it out loud and was pissed. Like leave me hanging and wondering what’s up and then bam! But that’s what a good book is all about.

I can’t wait for the next book because I hope some serious smack down happens! I was soooooo into this character and then TWIST! Way to hook a gal, Skye!

My body heats at the words, at the remembered pleasure of Sutton’s mouth on my sex. Christopher looks down at me, as if he can feel the heat emanating from between my legs. His expression turns stark, as if he’s in pain. That’s only fair, because I’m in pain too.

“You deserve better than that,” Christopher says, but there’s no way to pretend he’s talking about Sutton. He’s talking about himself and we both know it.

“He gives me what I want, which is something you might try next time you like a girl.”

“It wasn’t that,” he says, harsh again.

“No?” I step forward and place a hand on his chest, feeling the way his heart beats strong and fast. He may want to be unaffected by me, but he isn’t. I tilt my face up toward him. “You didn’t imagine me naked in the cabin later?”

He sucks in a breath. “You were too young then.”

My words come out as a whisper. “What about now? Will you do what Sutton said—imagine me in this dress when you go home after this?”

“It’s not fucking decent,” he says, even though the silk covers every part of me. It’s a perfectly respectable dress, when it’s not hitched up around my waist.

“You can thank Sutton for this,” I say, because it’s true. He’s the only reason I lean forward and place my lips against Christopher’s, touching them in some terrible attempt to show him what he gave up, to prove to myself that I don’t care about either of them.

Christopher sucks in a breath. For a second I think he’s going to pull away. He stiffens and grasps my hair with his fist. Easy enough for him to stop the kiss. Instead he dips my head back and deepens it, exploring my mouth with his teeth, his tongue. Opening me wider until I whimper. Pulling me close until I can feel how hard he is beneath his slacks.

His other hand fists in the gauze of my dress, and I realize he’s holding me with both hands clenched—one in my hair and one in my clothes. I don’t know whether he’s doing it so he doesn’t have to touch me or because it’s a way to control me without bruising me. He uses both hands to tug me closer; I’m pressed so tightly I can’t imagine getting away.

Where Sutton had been raw sensuality and playfulness, Christopher is pure determination. He kisses me like he’s a conquering army, like I’m made of gold he has to grasp—or lose forever.

OMGEEEEE!!!

My heart has been ripped out. I mean, wow! This story was brilliant. I loved the way it was laid out and the flow of it. I usually avoid super emotional and ugly cry books like the plague. Because once the tears start for me, they don’t stop. Tillie really did a number on this girl and a box of Puffs.

This book is one I will NOT be forgetting for a long time to come. When someone asks me what book will make me ugly cry and purge my soul…it’ll be this one. Although it was super emotional and sometimes gutwrenchingly sad, it was also beautiful and sweet. Passionate. Soooo much passion. About music, life, and love.

This is an easy five star read for me. It made me feel, made me think, made me want to hug all of my loved ones a little tighter. It reminded me of all the simple things in life we all take for granted and made me appreciate it a little more. So if that’s what Tillie was going for with this book, she nailed it and then some.

Tillie Cole hails from a small town in the North-East of England. She grew up on a farm with her English mother, Scottish father and older sister and a multitude of rescue animals. As soon as she could, Tillie left her rural roots for the bright lights of the big city.

After graduating from Newcastle University with a BA Hons in Religious Studies, Tillie followed her Professional Rugby player husband around the world for a decade, becoming a teacher in between and thoroughly enjoyed teaching High School students Social Studies before putting pen to paper, and finishing her first novel.

Tillie has now settled in Austin, Texas, where she is finally able to sit down and write, throwing herself into fantasy worlds and the fabulous minds of her characters.

Tillie is both an independent and traditionally published author, and writes many genres including: Contemporary Romance, Dark Romance, Young Adult and New Adult novels.

When she is not writing, Tillie enjoys nothing more than curling up on her couch watching movies, drinking far too much coffee, while convincing herself that she really doesn’t need that extra square of chocolate.

For eight years, Julien has kept his family a secret. A famous chef with his own restaurants and a gorgeous husband, he should have it all. But inside his easygoing personality, he’s fighting his mind telling him he’s not worthy. That he’s to blame for his family’s tragedy. But with the help of his husband, Joel, and their new boyfriend Robbie, he’s making it through his daily struggles. Even though Robbie has no idea what he’s helping Julie fight.

“At times Julien was so in control, much the way Priest was. He was arrogant, gorgeous, and entirely capable of making one believe he had everything in the world he would ever need. But under that façade, behind that famous smile, there was a tortured soul. And that part of him called to Robbie in ways he’d never known it would.”

I cannot tell you how in love I’m in with these three guys. With each confession, we get a closer look at what these men are hiding deep inside. Julien had a twin sister and blames himself for her death and the destruction of his family. It’s so sad and you can’t help but want to take the man and hold him close by. Robbie seems to have the perfect knack for dealing with the people he loves with limitless patience. I love how he’s the perfect third to round out this duo of men who are needed someone to be the bridge between them and outside world. I think it all has to do with the loving family that Robbie was raised in and he can’t help but want to share that love and feeling of belonging with others. He’s just that special soul that makes you feel a little lighter and smile a little brighter. I seriously raced through Julien’s confessions because I had to know just what was hurting Julien so deeply and keeping him from shining as brightly as he should. But I just don’t know how Robbie will deal with Priest’s secrets. I know Priest feels like he was protecting him but I just hope Robbie feels the same way.

I freaking love this world that Ella has created. All of these people who interact with all of our favorite characters from previous stories that we’ve loved. And to see Robbie’s reaction when one of our other favorite characters are mentioned…swoon!

Chapter One

CONFESSION

Those who are meant to be yours will always find you.

“WE MEET again, Mr. Thornton.”

A shiver of awareness raced up Julien Thornton’s spine as he stood in the jail cell of a downtown L.A. police station where he’d been thrown around an hour ago for public intoxication.

He didn’t need to turn to know who was on the opposite side of those steel bars. That voice was the one he’d been hoping to hear when he’d made his “one call” and left a message after a generic voicemail. That voice? It had been on his mind since the last time he’d heard it, nearly two weeks earlier when he’d met—and attempted to steal the car of—a man who called himself Priest.

Julien pivoted on his heels, and when he did, he realized that he’d grossly underestimated the impact that Joel Priestley had had on him the first time around.

Oui, he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about him, that was true, and oui, he might’ve purposely provoked the police officer tonight hoping he’d end up needing a lawyer. But Dieu, he’d forgotten the way Priest made his body respond. Like an inferno was licking through his veins.

With auburn hair, stormy eyes, and a presence that Julien gravitated toward like a magnetic force, he didn’t think anything could prepare a person for the powerful energy Priest exuded. Not to mention that cool, judgmental stare of his.

But Julien had no one to blame for that judgment but himself. Maybe if they didn’t always meet at the end of one of his week-long benders, he could have the upper hand with this man for once. And wouldn’t that be délicieux, he thought, as he looked at the lawyer who’d dropped him home two weeks before, instead of at the police station like he’d originally threatened.

Priest was as put together now, at three in the morning, as he had been that afternoon in the alley. Suited up in a tailored navy number that framed his broad shoulders and emphasized the rich color of his hair, he looked sharp, controlled, and dangerous to Julien’s already unstable state of mind as he stood there sizing him up with an unreadable expression.

“I’m curious,” Priest finally said, as he clasped his hands behind his back and took a step closer to the cell where Julien had spent most of the night sobering up. “Did you not understand me the last time we spoke?”

Julien clenched his jaw and wondered if Priest realized how condescending he sounded when he spoke—or just how much it turned Julien on. “Non. I understood just fine.”

“Then what part of ‘I won’t be so lenient next time’ made you think that calling me to bail you out of here was a good idea?”

Julien was still trying to work that out himself, but thought it might have something to do with the fact that he was drawn to this man. There was something about Priest that made him feel alive, when all he’d felt for months now was dead inside.

When Julien didn’t respond, Priest cocked his head, studying him closely, the disapproval rolling off him in waves. “Are you that hard up for a date that this was the only way you could think to get one?”

Putain, the man was arrogant. But for reasons Julien couldn’t explain, that seemed to make him all the more appealing. “You’re the one who gave me your card the last time we met. Perhaps it’s you who are hard up for a date, monsieur. Giving your number out to—”

“Criminals?” Priest frowned. “No. That’s called smart business acumen, considering I’m a criminal attorney.”

Julien scoffed. “I’m hardly a criminal.”

“Really?” Priest said, and took his time examining the six-by-eight space Julien currently stood in. He then leaned forward and said in a lowered voice, “Your current situation tells a different kind of story.”

Despite his “current situation,” and the reason he’d gotten himself into it, Julien felt his lips curve, and he realized exactly why he was drawn to Priest. He possessed the one thing that Julien had been looking for—the ability to take his mind off the black hole his life had become. “Maybe it’s le destin.”

“And what does that mean? Destiny?” Priest straightened and brought his arm around to check the time. “I doubt destiny has anything to do with it. A more likely scenario is that I was your only option.”

“Even if that’s true,” Julien said as he wrapped his fingers around the bars, “you came anyway.”

“As I said before, it’s my job.”

“At three in the morning?”

“At any hour of the morning,” Priest said, and then looked down the hallway that was devoid of anything other than dreary off-white tiles and horribly bright fluorescent lighting. “I’m going to go and see if I can get you out, and then you and I are going to have a talk.”

Something about the way Priest said you and I made Julien’s pulse race, and as Priest went to walk away, Julien whispered, “J’ai vraiment hâte,” and the ever-so-serious lawyer stopped in his tracks and looked back.

This time when those eyes roamed over Julien, his breath caught. There was nothing cool about that stare now. There was heat, interest, and an intensity that made Julien’s fingers tighten around the bars before Priest cut the connection and walked away.

Julien watched him go until he disappeared around the end of the hall, and then he released his breath on a rush. Merde. He’d never been so attracted to someone in all his life, and as he stood there waiting for Priest to save him yet again, Julien knew he needed to stop what he was thinking.

There was no way in hell he deserved someone like that. Non, no way at all. That didn’t, however, stop him from counting down the minutes until Priest returned to him…

Ok, so the blurb really does wrap this book up in a great big bow and touches all the bases – Aiden is the proverbial bachelor. Super successful as well as hot and has no trouble getting women. His outlook on love is jaded so he has no plans on being in a relationship anytime soon.

Daisy is on her way up the workforce ladder and takes her job seriously. Due to her background growing up and a hugely unsuccessful relationship, she has no time for a man either. Work, work, work.

Daisy and Aiden are coworkers. AND they have the hots for each other…secretly.

Until the fated business trip where Daisy puts aside her starched suits and shows Aiden a thing or two but just until sun up! As the blurb states, that one crazy night has put them in a precarious situation – parenthood.

I will say that these two have so much chemistry its crazy and super hot. Aiden…yikes…the little things he does and says are swoon worthy! Their bond is getting stronger due to the pregnancy and the story is truly adorable. I loved the plot, the characters, the alpha male being brought to his knees and their love for each other. My ONLY GRIPE is no epilogue! I want an epilogue! LOL…it ends abruptly with no insight as to how their lives in the future pan out! UGH. Even though I would have liked (needed) to read what happens I still recommend reading this book – great beach read!

“Enough about work.  I say we move on to other pleasures,” Aiden said with a flirtatious gleam in his eyes.  “What’ll you have to drink?  Your normal white wine spritzer?”

Yep, she really was totally predictable and boring, because that was always her go-to drink during their monthly mixers with clients, or when some of their co-workers went out after work for a cocktail, and he’d obviously noticed her light-weight choice.  Her limit was always one, and she was usually the first to leave those social gatherings, citing an early morning.

Predictable and boring had been her life for the past three years because it was a safe place to be, but tonight, being in a different city and away from her normal routine and weighty expectations prompted her to be daring.

“I think I’ll have a Moscow mule,” she said, stepping completely outside of her square little box.

He arched a dark brow, the amusement in his eyes warm and playful.  “Wow, walking on the wild side tonight, huh?”

She laughed, the sound huskier than she’d intended.  “Sure.  Why not.”

“Why not, indeed,” he murmured, looking at her as if he was seeing someone other than the reserved woman he’d worked with the past three years before motioning to the bartender.

“What can I get you two?” the older gentleman asked as he set a small square napkin on the counter in front of each of them.

“Two Moscow mules,” Aiden said, surprising Daisy by ordering one for himself.

“You like them, too?” she asked once the bartender left them to make their drinks.  With a mixture of vodka, spicy ginger beer, and lime juice, it was usually an acquired taste.

“Never had one,” he admitted, flashing her a dimpled grin that caused a warm tickle in her belly.  “But if you’re taking a walk on the wild side tonight, then I’m joining you.”

She rolled her eyes.  “Yeah, I’m such a rebel,” she scoffed, then shook her head at that absurd notion and laughed.  “Okay, let’s be real.  I’m so not rebellious.”

“I know, which is why I’m not letting you indulge alone,” he teased, leaning his forearm on the countertop. “You know what they say . . . friends don’t let friends get drunk alone.”

Her lips quirked at his explanation.  “Umm, can’t say I’ve ever heard that quote before.”

“Just go with it, Daisy,” he encouraged, swiveling his chair so that his body was turned toward her, though she remained sitting straight because if she did rotate her seat his way, his legs would end up bracketing hers.  “Besides, I don’t want to be the responsible sober one if you do something crazy, like dance on one of the tabletops.  I want to watch and cheer you on.”

Her cheeks warmed at the notion of doing something so impulsive, but mostly at the thought of Aiden encouraging her brazen behavior and having his eyes on her while she shimmied her body and tempted him to end her three year dry spell.  Yeah, as if that would ever happen.  Judging by the beautiful, sophisticated, svelte women she’d seen him with, she was so not his type.

“So, truthfully?” he said, his voice effectively snapping her out of her little fantasy, even though the residual scrape of her tight, hard nipples against the cups of her bra was distracting as hell.  “I’ve always been curious to know what a Moscow mule tasted like.”

“You didn’t have to order one,” she told him with a laugh.  “I would have given you a sip of mine.”

“Mmm . . . I don’t think I should be putting my lips on your lips,” he said, his voice dipping sensually low as his gaze skimmed across her mouth before lifting to her eyes again.  “Well, not technically, anyways, but if you shared, I might not be able to stop at one taste, and that wouldn’t be fair to you.”

Daisy’s pulse stuttered, then resumed at a faster, more arousing pace.  Oh.  My.  God.  Were they even talking about the Moscow mule anymore?  She was used to the occasional teasing exchange with Aiden at work where there were a dozen other people around so it never felt personal.  But now that it was just the two of them, without anyone else around to buffer his comments and the situation, she wasn’t sure what to make of this more intimate dialogue . . . except to admit that it was making her very aware of how much she missed this kind of connection with a man . . . especially the physical one.  And how much she liked Aiden’s attention.

The bartender delivered their drinks, and both she and Aiden picked up their highball glasses and took a sip of the Moscow mule.  The taste of vodka was strong, but the spicy ginger beer and lime gave it an interesting twist of flavor.  It took Aiden three sips, taken with a furrowed, uncertain brow, before he finally, slowly, nodded his head in approval.

“It’s definitely different, but I like the kick of spice.”  He shifted his gaze from the drink, to her.  “Who knew beneath those conservative suits you wear that you were a woman who liked a little spice in her life.”

His eyes twinkled mischievously, though there was something more heated simmering beneath the amber hue as he maintained eye contact with her.  As if he was testing just how far she’d allow this arousing banter between them to go.  If she’d play it off like she normally did, or if she’d dare to take a walk on the wild side, as he’d suggested earlier.

The thought was appealing, especially in a city and environment where no one knew them.  Deciding to just go with the flow of flirty conversation and enjoy the evening away from work, obligations, and responsibilities, she took another swallow of her drink and smiled at him.  “That’s because you’ve never seen me out of my business attire.”
