“I hate Tyler Adams. Hating him would be my religion if music wasn’t.”

Oh, how I love a really good angsty read and this one had so much of it filling the pages. A Love Song for Liars is the first book in a spin-off series of Piper Lawson’s Wicked and apparently there’s also a prequel for this that I need to go back and read while I’m at it. It’s safe to say there is some more history than I knew going in since we actually get introduced to Annie and Tyler before this story. But I still didn’t feel like I was missing anything or that it left any holes or unanswered questions for me. Even though that cliffhanger had me cursing and desperately needing more of the story right that very second, I highly enjoyed this friends to enemies/first love New Adult read.

Annie and Tyler were best friends when they were young and their worlds crashed and intertwined in so many ways. They lost touch but when Annie learned Tyler would be coming to live with her family, attending her last year Oakwood Prep turned from something she loathed to something she looked forward to. But when her best friend betrays her, he becomes just another name on the long list of assholes that grace the halls of Oakwood Prep. It’s kind of hard to avoid him when he lives in your pool house and your dad has taken him under his wing. It’s going to be an interesting year for sure.

When Tyler gets offered the opportunity of a lifetime there’s no way he’s turning it down, especially when it means an escape from his father and a chance to see Annie again. But along with the chance at a new life there are rules and expectations. The golden rule is to stay away from the only person that’s ever really seen him and it’s proving to be a lot harder than he thought. I totally loved Tyler although there are hints he’s the bad boy or has that persona, he really doesn’t. He is popular as soon as he starts Oakwood Prep but never lets that get to him…he couldn’t care less. He just wants a better life and the girl he knows he’s not supposed to have. He misses their friendship and has no idea why she hates him. I also loved Annie and how strong she was. My heart broke for her as she struggled between being angry with Tyler and wanting nothing more than to be with him. She was constantly bullied at school and needed her best friend. I was waiting for him to choose a side and am glad he finally did. There was a ton of drama, angst and love in this book but there was also heartbreak. In Annie’s eyes the ultimate betrayal. And then that cliffhanger! Ahh!! I can’t wait for the next book and to see where Tyler and Annie’s story takes us.
