Maybe This is Love by Jennifer Snow Release Day Blitz

Excerpt

“Relax,” he said smoothly, his gaze locked on hers, his expression soft, unfazed—the look of a man not dancing with the lawyer who could ruin his life or at least playoff season. She had to learn this guy’s secret, because there was no way he was this unaffected. Yet, his hands weren’t sweating the ways hers threatened to, and the only heartbeat she could hear thundering was her own.

She forced a slow and what she hoped was unobvious breath. “I am relaxed. I’m not the one who should be worried.”

The palm of his hand spread across the exposed flesh of her back and she prayed the tingling sensation in her spine didn’t result in goose bumps. “So you’re saying I should be?” he asked, turning them in rotation to the steady beat. Despite her resistance to this dance, her hips betrayed her by swaying in sync with his, and her feet kept time with his every step. He led with a silent authority that she was forced to follow. And for the first time in her life, she wasn’t hating giving up control.

“I think so, yes. My client is…”

He brought their joined hands between them and placed a finger to her lips.

Her heart all but stopped.

“Why don’t we save the shop talk for the courtroom? Let’s just enjoy this dance.”

She swallowed hard, but nodded. Dancing in silence, she could do that.

Unfortunately, Ben seemed eager to chat. “How long have you been practicing law?”

He expected her to remember stats as his hand on her back dipped slightly lower, his hold drawing her even closer? It had been far too long since she’d been enveloped in the arms of a man who felt and smelled so strong, so confident…How long would it be again if she went ahead with her plans for a baby? She pushed the thought aside when he stared at her, still waiting for an answer. “Twelve years,” she said, cutting out her time as a junior lawyer and intern, so as not to age herself. She knew from his online Wikipedia page that he was thirty-four, two years younger than she.

“Do you love what you do?” he asked.

“If I say no will I get the inspirational ‘do what you love and it will never feel like work’ speech?”

Is that a no?”

She shook her head. “Actually, I really do enjoy my job.” She couldn’t say watching families get ripped apart by bitter divorces was something she loved without sounding like a sociopath, but she enjoyed her career.

“Can I ask why only professional athlete divorces?”

“I was dumped by a jock,” she said.

Ben laughed. “So one guy ruined it for us all, huh?”

She nodded then shook her head. “No. Everyday cases—with normal, everyday husbands and wives—just seemed a little too…real,” she said.

His blue eyes burned into her and his grip tightened on her hand. “So, guys like me aren’t real?”

She swallowed hard. He felt real…He felt more than real—he felt amazing. His arm wrapped around her felt deceivingly safe and his hand holding hers felt warm and secure. God, she could see herself giving in to these painfully real feelings…“You’re probably one of the more real ones,” she said, hoping he didn’t detect the slight quiver in her voice.

He nodded slowly as though unsure whether her words were a compliment. “Have you ever been married?” he asked, rotating them in time to the music.

“That’s crossing a line into personal.”

“Kids?”

“That’s less personal?” She raised an eyebrow.

He smiled. “Guarded much?”

The effect of his smile from a safe distance was knee-weakening. This close, it was downright dangerous. She quickly averted her gaze to the other couples on the floor. “How long is this song anyway?” She felt trapped the way she had in tenth grade when Robbie Gropes-a-Lot Harris had tricked her into dancing with him at the winter formal to “November Rain”—the full eleven-minute extended version. Except Ben’s breath smelled minty fresh and not like tacos, and his arm draped across her lower back made every fiber in her being spring to life, making her want to flee for a completely different reason than the one Robbie had evoked.

“Do I make you uncomfortable?”

Damn right. And it should be her making him uncomfortable. There needed to be a power shift between them and fast. “Of course not.”

He pulled her closer. “You make me uncomfortable,” he murmured, his expression suddenly serious. Every inch of her body was pressed to his and she could barely catch a breath. Dancing was a really bad idea—a torturously bad idea. Being in his arms reminded her of all of the things she’d sacrificed for her career, of all the things she’d told herself she didn’t need…

“G-good,” she said, her voice cracking. “As I said, my client…”

“I don’t mean the divorce case. I mean you.” He touched her cheek and her skin burned. Thank God he was holding her so tightly because she couldn’t trust her legs.

Their stare locked and held for what could have been a lifetime, as everything seemed still and quiet around them.

Still and quiet.

The song had ended.

She yanked her hand free of his and stumbled away from him, inhaling a gulp of air into her deprived lungs. “Well, dance is over. I’ll…uh…see you.”

He nodded, the charming polite smile back on his face and for a second she wondered if she’d imagined the intensity in his gaze seconds before. “Goodnight, Olivia.”

Olivia.

Her own name sounded foreign coming from him. She longed to hear the sound again, and she was an idiot for wanting something so dangerous. The NHL’s biggest playboy had just worked his charm on her, and she’d lost all common sense.

She turned and headed straight for the table, leaving him on the dance floor.

She had to pull it together, but she also had to admit the unfortunate truth. Never before had she been tempted to kiss the enemy.

God how I wanted to love this book……I truly did.  It had all the right moving pieces…hot hockey player, hot female lead, good twist….all the right pieces.but once the story starting going, those pieces just did not fit well together, for me anyway.
Olivia Davis is a lawyer, not just any lawyer though…she is one of the best around and she just got a case involving a famous hockey player who evidentally had a wild night out a few months back and doesnt remember getting married to her new client she is representing.  As if she doesnt have enough on her plate….you see she is in the process of invitro.  Now, she does not have a husband. Nor a boyfriend…yep, she is single and feels she is getting too old and decides to have a child on her own.
Enter Ben Westmore….hot hockey god and new husband….so it seems.  He remembers being drunk…really drunk and well that is about it.  After his lawyer does some digging, he realizes what a mistake he made and goes to meet with the woman and her lawyer.
Naturally Olivia and Ben are instantly attracted to each other and both are finding it hard to stay away.  I liked the story up to that point.  It then got weird because Ben’s new wife was someone from grade school that got picked on and she was basically blackmailing him to help her son play hockey…this storyline made no sense and I wasnt sure where it was going and at the same time Ben aka Mr. Committment Phobe was ga-ga over Olivia and her invitro/baby scenerio.  It just didnt work for me.  I wanted hot hockey player falls for lawyer her cant have but it just had these weird side stories that did not fit in at all and I felt took away from their potential hot story.  The book kinda lost me at that point although I did finish it out of curiousity but was not what I thought it was going to be.  😦

Hockey player Ben Westmore has some serious skills—on and off the ice—and he’s not above indulging in the many perks of NHL stardom. When a night in Vegas ends in disaster, he realizes two things: 1) it’s time to lie low for a while, and 2) he needs a lawyer—fast. But the smoking-hot woman who walks into his office immediately tests all his good intentions.

Olivia Davis doesn’t need anyone derailing her career—or her dreams of starting a family—least of all a skirt-chasing player like Ben. But soon he’s unleashing a full-court press to convince her that he’s the real deal. She’s slowly falling for his sweet, rugged charm, but with so much on the line, Olivia has to decide whether Ben can truly change—or if he’s just playing the game.

Loved, loved, loved. I have loved this series from the start…every book, every storyline, every character, every ending! While I was not aware that this was only a novella, which disappointed me…this novella did not.

This is an update on the Brooks Family…Lucas Brooks’ family. It not only gives tiny updates on other favorite characters but brings you to a few games away from the Stanley Cup and yes, Brooks and the team are vying for it.

Only Brooks is starting to feel the wear and tear on his body but pushes on with the last few games hoping to make play offs. I adore, adore his family….wife, kids and the whole crazy crew. Brooks has a career decision to make and it was great to see all the love and support his has and to see what happens. While I hated how short it was, I loved every word and cant wait for more in this series!!!

Fallon held a half-eaten snow cone in one hand and her phone in the other with one earbud in as she watched Aiden rush down the ice, the puck under his control. He caught the defense on a change, somewhat of a breakaway, before he shot the puck hard toward the net, hitting the back of it with ease.

“Woot!” Audrey called from beside her.

“Yes!” Fallon fist-pumped as the girls stood by the glass, bouncing up and down in their way too big Brooks jerseys. Looking over to Asher, who was on his computer, she said, “Your brother scored.”

“Attaboy!” he called out, but he didn’t look up, which only made Fallon shake her head as she watched Aiden hug his teammates. “What’s the score on Daddy’s game?”

“Two-zip, Assassins,” she said as she waved her hand in the air when Aiden looked up at her, like he always did. Like he always had, and a part of her was excited about his future. But the other part just made her heart ache. When he was in college, would he be able to see her?

And in the NHL? Crap, she knew he wouldn’t be able to see her then.

“This is game four, right? They win, they go to round three?”

“Yes, baby. Emery! Get off there! Come eat this snow cone. It’s melting.”

Emery continued to climb on the rail of the bleachers as she looked up. “I don’t want it.”

“Then come get it and throw it away.”

She pouted. “I don’t want to.”

“Emery Elaine,” Fallon warned. “Get over here. Right now.”

“I want my daddy!”

“That’s new,” Audrey commented as Emery stomped up the stairs, her little brow

furrowed.

“That’s Emery, who has stayed close to her dad every moment he’s been home,” she muttered as Emery stopped in front of her. “Do you want that tail wore out?”

“No, ma’am.”

“Then what do you need to do?”

“Throw away the snow cone and watch my mouth?”

“Exactly,” she said, handing the snow cone to her trying child before looking down at her phone to see that the Assassins were on the penalty kill. They were probably playing the best hockey she had seen them play in her many years of supporting and loving the team. She was excited, but her gut was in a knot, not only for the Assassins but also for Aiden. Because across the rink, she could see the Bellevue representatives, watching her little boy with intent.

“Aiden is playing great,” Audrey said then, and Fallon nodded.

“I know, the best he’s ever played. Just like the Assassins.”

Audrey beamed. “We’ll close out tonight and then get a nice break before round three.

They need it.”

“They do.” Looking down at her phone, Fallon watched as the second period ended, and she let out a long sigh. One more period. Twenty more minutes, and if the Assassins could hold the Hawks, they’d move on to round three. She couldn’t believe it. This would be the first time the Assassins had swept anyone in the play-offs, and according to Facebook, Elli was coming out of her skin.

I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.
I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.
… and did I mention I love hockey?

I was truly hoping that his 2nd book in this series had followed suit after the first and would be awesome. Not that it wasn’t good…just not awesome…but definitely worth the read…and yes, you get to see Blake!!

Garret and Lauren have been friends forever…best friends. Garret was there for her through her brutal relationship with her ex-husband. Since then, they have both given in to their attraction to each other and have a go at it…literally. Only it couldn’t have turned out worse!!! While promising to still remain friends and pretend their only sexual encounter with each other was a total disaster..their feelings are still there for each other as well as the attraction.

So Garret has the bright idea that they try again…lol. It was a quick read with a lot of funny conversations, some old characters show their faces as well, a little angst situation as a few hot sex scenes thrown in. It is comical and heartwarming to see these two star crossed lovers give it another try..Does it work? Are their fireworks? Does the sex happen and is it good this time? Can they remain friends if the second time is a flop as well? I say, open this book up and have at it..you wont be disappointed.

Lindsay is in college and has come to the decision to stop being a “puck bunny” to the hockey team at her school after her heart is broken. But some habits are hard to break! She puts all her focus on her studies and is determined to stay away from the games, players and other puck bunnies alike. It is brought to her attention that she will be needing extra tutoring for one of her math classes.

Ryder or aka Ox…..hot, intelligent, charming sexy and naturally one of the teams best players has decided to give some of his time and help tutor. Just so happens Lindsay is his student.

It was really fun to watch these two banter back and forth and it had a few witty one liners. Lindsay, tries to fight her attraction to Ryder. At first she thinks he is just a womanizing manwhore and doesn’t even want his help to study but soon realizes he is her only hope. Ryder, never one to back down from a challenge, vows to get Lindsay to change her mind about him and her preconceived notions she has about him. The push and pull was funny and romantic and I found myself smiling and loving some of Ryders tactics to win Lindsay over.

This book is a quick, fun read and will surely hold your attention. Great beach read for upcoming summer! Definitely recommend!!

I love sex. I love the power, the intimacy, the euphoria it brings. Too bad I’m not having any . . . You’d think as New Orleans’ most renowned sex therapist that I’d be swimming in single men. In a way, I am . . . except for the fact that one is in diapers and the other two are drowning in preteen hormones. As a single mother of three, my days are devoted to my clients and my kids, and my nights are spent with Fabio, my trusty vibrator. When my world begins to unravel, I have no choice but to move back home. And when my high school sweetheart comes waltzing back into my life, comedy and chaos ensue.

What can I say? I never said I could pick ’em, but you can bet your ass I know how to fix ’em.

As soon as the ink dried on my divorce papers, I made myself a solemn vow: I was done with relationships. Moving home to take over my father’s firm was the plan, until Spencer decided to return, along with three souvenirs from the life she’s lived without me.

I’ve been in love with the girl next door for nearly all of my life; the rest was spent trying to forget her. I’d give almost anything for a second chance with her, but I have no time for distractions—especially the kind that involve diapers, bottles, and eighteen-year commitments.

The problem is, she’s already got me by the balls . . . and I’m beginning to feel the noose tightening around my heart.

What a great, funny, lighthearted read. I highly recommend you to grab this book, kick your feet up with a glass of wine and enjoy!

Spencer, who has 3 kids by 2 different baby daddy’s has come to find herself moving back home with her mom after she loses her job. There is much background given on the kids and their dads and it’s captivating. She feels like she is in over her head with life and struggling to get a grasp on things. Little does she know that her high school sweetheart and first love has also moved back home with his mother…who happens to live next door.

Cooper and Spencer…back together again but the only difference now is she has kids…again from 2 different men. Cooper feels gutted by this…he see’s her being a mom to these boys and it pains him to think that those kids could have been his. That they would be sharing that experience together. He also makes it painfully clear that he does not want kids and doesnt even really like kids. After Spencer moved away and moved on with her life, he sort of gave up on that dream…

But wouldn’t you know it, after Cooper starts spending time with Spencer and her boys, they start to grow on him…alot. He is not only rekindling his relationship with Spencer but becoming a “father figure” to her boys. He starts to get especially attached to the youngest, Kyle. Oh my god…there is a scene where he has to change his diaper…I laughed out loud for at least 5 minutes and actually re-read the scene over and over…then screenshot it and sent parts to my mommy friends. It was classic and one of the funniest scenes I have read in a long, long, time. The stuff that comes out of this kids mouth is just as humorous. The relationship that is blooming between these two is not only hilarious but heartwarming.

Sneakily, the author has to burst this bubble of bliss and laughs by bringing back this young childs father into the picture and stirs up trouble with this happy lot.

It was a great time to read these two characters build back up there lost relationship and to see how the kids fit into it. There was so much humor and laughs and a few hot steamy scenes, angst, drama and even more laughs. I was sad to get to the last page of this book!! Look forward to more from this author!!

Affliction by Jenika Snow ~Release Blitz w/ Review & Excerpt

It wasn’t until Cameron that I knew what real darkness was…or that I’d crave it so much.

I’ve let the world weigh down on me; pull me under until nothing makes sense anymore. Maybe that’s how I let myself get into the mess I’m currently in? Maybe that’s how I’m in my current situation with a man I knew could save me from a fate worse than death. Even if being with Cameron, giving him the very part of me, the only part that’s worth anything—my body—might very well ruin me, I have to survive.

Drug lord. Crime Boss. Murderer. I should fear him, be horrified by what he wants from me, by who he is. But instead, I find myself wanting to please him, wanting to give myself over completely.

Because I know that gives me control over him.

Cameron Ashton reins over the gritty underworld, the danger and violence of depravity, from his throne. A pistol is his sword, and apathy is his second-in-command. I know he’s dangerous, know he’ll break me and not think twice. But he’s my only chance, the only way I’ll survive.

He’s possessive and controlling. And he does own me, every part of me. The darkness in him runs stronger, deeper than it ever had in me. Maybe we’re not so different? Maybe giving up my control to Cameron, giving him my very soul, makes me the powerful one?

Maybe, in the end, I’ll be the one who owns him.

Warning: This is a filthy, dark romance. There may be subject matter and triggers that are sensitive to some readers. In the end, this IS a romance, albeit a twisted one. If you’re looking for a story that gives you the warm and fuzzies, this is not the book for you.

“You want to be free of this pain, of this nightmare?”

Still I couldn’t speak. I glanced at Ricky. He watched me, one eye swollen shut, blood covering his face. He didn’t seem strong now. He knew his number had been pulled and he’d be dead before the night was over. I knew that, too. I also didn’t give a shit. He deserved this. Ricky knew who and what he was up against, and he knew this was the end of the road for him.

Maybe that makes me a monster, too, because I don’t care. I want him to suffer, to be afraid.

“Sofia,” Cameron said my name softly, urging me in that deep, commanding voice of his.

“Yes,” I whispered, my voice empty, just like my soul. I turned and faced the man who’d ridden in like the very devil himself. But then again, wasn’t I the match to this gasoline-saturated scene?

“Say it. Ask me for it.” Cameron’s voice was eerily strong, collected.

I looked at Ricky again, a man who would have done horrible things to me, trying to push my humanity down.

“Ask me to take your problem away.” Cameron’s voice was low, a little seductive. I glanced at him again, feeling like I was lost at sea.

Cameron was powerful and wanted to exert that, wanted me to be on my knees as he showed me what he could do—figuratively and literally—what he could solve. I was at his mercy, the same as Ricky. And a part of me knew that once I said the words, everything would change. I told Cameron what I wanted, that I wanted Ricky gone, dead, the life I once knew, albeit shitty, would become something else.

I’d be the epitome of darkness, embracing it because I’d taken a life in my hands and extinguished it.

“I want my problem to go away.” The words that came from me were cold, detached…just like my soul in that exact moment. I saw the way Cameron’s lip lifted, this sardonic, sadistic smirk coming into play. He would have killed Ricky without my prompt, without me begging. But here, now, making me ask, that was him showing me the control he had over me.

It was the promise of what he’d show me once we were alone and I had to pay my dues.

“Say it,” Cameron said again, harder this time.

I swallowed, squeezed my hands into fists, and said the words that would change the very person I thought I was. “I want him dead.”

It happened in slow motion, the world rewinding, the air being sucked out of the room. Cameron lifted his hand, his hold steady on the gun, his body seeming corded, tighter. Ricky begged, pleaded. He cried and shook uncontrollably. It didn’t matter, because his fate had already been sealed.

He knew what it felt like for me, how his life was now in someone else’s hands. Good.

And then the sound of the gun going off filled me, surrounded me. It was an echoing in my head, rocking me to my core, shaking everything inside of me. Warmth seeped over me, seemed to seep into me.

Blood. Hot, viscous, life-sustaining fluid covered my face and chest. I was frozen in place, my body numb, the feeling of that liquid dripping from my chin, from the very ends of my hair and onto the floor, stunned as much as it disgusted and pleased me.

Hmmmm….so I had hoped that as I kept reading things would start to fall into place. That backgrounds would be explained, characters would develop, etc. Folks, not the case here. I have the same amount of unanswered questions at the end of the book as I did when I started it.

Sofia….your classic damsel in distress. You get bits and pieces here and there but I found it hard to connect with her on any level. On the advice of a co-worker, she reaches out to a clearly shady person to help her with “money”. She knows he is a bad guy…one of the worst only you never really get many details about him just that he is bad, bad, bad and involved with lots of people he shouldn’t be.

This book was to jumbled for me, the characters had no development, no connection and quite frankly the plot was so blurred it made me dizzy. The ending I could have guessed half way through so there was no surprise. Just wish I could have liked it better. 😦

Rock bottom. They say the only way to go from there is up, but what is “up” when you’re born into someone else’s rock bottom?

At ten, football became my first love. It’s what got me out of the house away from my self-destructive family. My love for football landed me at Las Vegas University with a full ride scholarship, and the orange on my jersey was my favorite color…until my eyes landed on the red dress Fallyn wore the night we met.

At twenty-one, I jumped off the cliff into the unknown the second Fallyn McIntyre danced in my arms at a party. I had the greatest girl in the world and the opportunity to play college ball every Saturday. My rock bottom was looking up, thanks to my two first loves.

Parties, sex, and football—life was perfect. But one drink too many, and my world came crashing down. When I chose pills over my second love, my head told me it was the best decision I ever made. The pills keep me warm and protect me from the distance Fallyn created. Percs don’t judge me. They make me feel alive.

Threes.

They say the best things come in threes, but one leads to a stable future, one is my salvation, and the other drags me to hell—a hell I’d willingly burn in for eternity…if it weren’t for my second love.

Yikes…..what an emotional roller coaster! I’m not sure if I need to have a drink or smoke a cigarette after reading this. I will say its not what I thought it was gonna be. This is super tragic and sad and had me debating if I even wanted to finish because I couldn’t stand one more bad thing happening….whew!!

Blaze had it all….full ride scholarship for football, a championship just games away and throngs of women and fans. All that Blaze had though, he worked his a$$ off for. Nothing and I mean nothing has been handed to him. His childhood was less then stellar….no, I take that back…it was a nightmare. Parents that drifted around, drugs, junkies and more drugs…dirty clothes and barely food to eat…that is the way he grew up…Until he took life by the horns and made something of himself.

Fallyn. It all came to a screeching halt when he laid eyes on her…forget about football and his fans….it was all about Fallyn. He couldn’t have been happier and was on cloud 9…but as the saying goes…all good things must come to an end…and boy does it for Blaze and Fallyn.

After a tragic event things were on a spiral down for them. I mean it was literally one thing after another….bad timing, bad choices, bad people….just bad. I honestly did not see the light at the end of the tunnel for these two and I was starting to feel hopeless and at one point almost put the book down…but Blaze gets the shock of his life and somehow starts to pull himself from the dredges he finds himself in.

It hurt to read parts of this book….while Blaze makes some horrible life decisions, the beginning of his bad streak was an actual series of unfortunate events so I felt so bad for him. This was very dark and troubling at times and I am not sure how Fallyn had the strength to keep standing as all the hits kept coming but all I will say is that by the end of the book I was screaming for his comeback and hoping they got a happy ending….I was mentally drained after reading this book but definitely in a good way…be prepared for a boatload of emotions with this one folks…

Excerpt
Turning to face the guy who is either too stupid or too drunk to take a hint, my eyes land on the handsome face of a tall blond with the lightest blue eyes I’ve ever seen. The smirk on his face clearly indicates he believes I should be impressed. And I am. There’s no doubt about it. I’m completely fascinated by the ego this douchebag emits with one simple look. Without a word, I let my eyes trail from the top of his purposely mussed hair that probably took longer to fix than mine to the orange chucks adorning his big feet.

He allows the perusal, awaiting my approval. Cocking an eyebrow at his blatant, pompous attitude, I push his hands off my hips.

“Not a chance, buddy,” I say before turning back toward the kitchen.

My legs tremble, wobbling on my already unsteady heels. I release a long, slow breath, hoping he disappeared into the crowd. The last thing I need is for him to notice the way my eyes lingered on his stubbled jaw and the muscles of his chest even his clothes can’t hide. I’m almost certain he could sense my quick, unmasked arousal. One look was all it took for this man to creep his way under my skin and throb in my core. He’s got self-entitled, bad boy, asshole written all over him—character traits I would have dropped anything for a few years ago. Not today, though. Those are flaws I left in Utah when I graduated high school.

The same firm grip reaches for me again, wrapping all the way around my body and pulling my back against an incredibly strong chest.

I close my eyes for a moment, allowing only a second of contact before turning around and readying my hand to slap him across the face for taking such liberties without my permission—just another alpha asshole attribute that used to make me swoon.

“You need to get your—”

His finger covers my lips, preventing me from getting my words out. My attempt at what I’m sure was going to be a very eloquent threat against his manhood falters as he pulls me closer to his body. His leg somehow finds its way between mine as he squats a couple inches to decrease the differences in our height.

The strong hand that has reached for me twice tonight is around my back, fingers splayed against the thin red fabric. The finger that halted my words trails down the column of my damp neck before gripping around at my nape. Gooseflesh follows the trail, racing over my fevered skin. He holds me against him, guiding me to the rhythm I hated until this very second. Like the traitorous slut she is, my body molds against him, every soft inch against his hardness.

“I don’t,” I begin again, only to have his hand leave my neck to push another finger against my parted lips.

I watch, enthralled and utterly stupid, as his bottom lip rolls between his teeth at the same time his thumb sweeps over mine.

I cave, wholeheartedly capitulating to the moment. Ignoring the warning bells going off in my head, screaming at me to bolt through the front door and not look back, I grip the silky athletic fabric of his jersey and pull him closer. A knowing grin lights his face and sparkles in the crystal blue of his eyes.

One song blends into another as our bodies close every millimeter of distance. No words are spoken as the countdown begins. No promises are made when the clock strikes midnight. No way I’ll survive this man when his breath becomes mine. No chance I’ll see him again when swaying all night turns into dancing tongues. No possibility of keeping my promise of no bad boys when one hand grips my nape and the other squeezes my ass.

Alcohol has never really been my thing. The memory of the first time I drank heavy liquor in high school is enough to make my stomach sour, but the bourbon on this guy’s lips is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. It’s, hands down, the most satisfying thing I’ve tasted since the ice cream I had after getting my tonsils removed when I was seven. I savor every fraction of a second, every slow glide of his tongue against mine, each time his lips pull back a fraction and turn up to smile against mine.

Without so much as one spoken word, this man has managed to master my body, persuading it to beg for more, coaxing whimpers from my mouth when he pulls away, only to ensure it pants a seductive moan when those skilled lips find my neck.
