The Savage by Daniela Romero is now live!
USA Today bestselling author Daniela Romero delivers a steamy new adult romance about a fútbol bad boy and the broken girl he’s determined to love
I wasn’t supposed to fall for him.
I officially cut boys out of my life.
They’re untrustworthy, vicious, and cruel.
So, if you told me this past summer that PacNorth University’s notorious bad boy was going to become my dark knight, I wouldn’t have believed you.
I’m not the same reckless, carefree girl I was three months ago.
That girl was naïve.
That girl was stupid.
That girl was destroyed.
I learned my lessons the hard way.
I’m still picking up the pieces of the girl I was before.
And, I know better than to fall for a sinful smile on a pretty face.
So I never should have given him so much as a second glance.
Gabriel Herrera can’t be my anything.
Only, he tells me I’m his everything.
But putting my trust in the boy with questionable intentions is the kind of devastation I may not survive.
What am I supposed to do?

The blurb for this book threw me off track quite a bit. The blurb made it sound like a bully romance with some deep dark secrets and I love a good bully romance. But this book was a tad different. In my opinion, it wasn’t a bully romance. I didn’t feel the whole bad boy thing going on. I mean there was a bully…a complete asshole POS bully. But it wasn’t who I thought it would be. This book definitely touches on some hard topics and could be a big trigger for some people. The author didn’t shy away from anything where that is concerned but handled the story around the subjects very well. If there aren’t trigger warnings for this book, there probably should be. With that being said, this was a very good read with some strong characters development.
“I need…it hits me and my chest heaves, breath seesawing in and out. This isn’t real. It’s a dream. A bad, bad dream.”
Cecilia was just your ordinary college coed enjoying school, classes and some partying. She had good grades, a few besties and things were going really good. In the span of one night, everything spiraled out of control. As the memories of what happened come crashing back one after the other, she becomes a shell of who she was before. She loses so much due to no fault of her own but rather the evilness of someone else. She carries her pain until it weighs her down so much she can’t take it anymore. But she didn’t expect Gabriel Herrera.
“A devil in disguise. I don’t know why I assumed otherwise. It’s the beautiful ones who hide their rotting centers best.”
Gabriel may be a soccer star but besides his two close friends he mostly keeps to himself on campus. Having suffered a horrible tragedy his pain is still fresh. As far as he is concerned, it’s better not to get involved with all the extra shit that goes on around campus. School, soccer and his brothers…nothing else mattered…until Cecilia.
“Maybe we can be broken together? It might make the pain hurt a little less.”
These two characters are so complex and broken. I loved them both. Gabriel was so much more than he seemed. He may have saved Cecilia but she saved him right back when he didn’t think it would ever be possible. Both of them have been through so much. The trauma that each carried was drowning them until they found peace with each other. Their jaded, broken pieces somehow fit together. I did have a little trouble with a few of the developments in the second half. If not for that, this would have been a five star read for me. But I feel like I can’t really say much more because I don’t want to give anything away. Please keep in mind the blurb doesn’t at all prepare you for what happens inside the pages of this book. I really can’t wait to see where the author takes Cecilia and Gabriel’s story next but I’m really pulling for a HEA.
