I really like this Montgomery series but for some reason this book did not connect with me. Annabelle marries her best friend Jonah who is dying. There is no romantic connection, no feelings of love…just friendship. His brother Jacob resents her for “stealing” his brother during his last days and wants nothing to do with her. He doesn’t know the full story of why they were actually married and has built up this wall when it comes to her.

Fast forward a few years and Jacob and Annabelle’s path cross yet again. The truth about why Annabelle married his brother comes to the surface and all of a sudden the hate he has carried for her falls away. I honestly did not feel this new found love between these two or a romantic connection at all. It felt forced. Maybe it was the storyline or the lack of fireworks between the two but it fell flat for me. I just didn’t get the “hate” he strongly felt for her and felt even less how it was so quickly “instalove”. There is a side story as well that I’m not sure how it actually fits in and confused the hell out of me. I could have done without it. For me, the story felt like it was all over the place. I do like this series, however, and look forward to future books!
